Over time, we've learned that anyone on your friends list as well as anyone on their friends list as well as anyone that appears on your recent players list..... are all able to join. I'm not sure how you would jump into someones Minecraft that wasn't related "by proxy" in any of those ways.
I do kind of wish we had a random matchmaker feature. I'd love to see what people are doing with their builds. I'm aware that the amount of griefers would exceed most peoples tolerances though.

But they would just be dealt with the same way they were dealt with on the PC version - spawn jails and etc.
Apparently, ANYONE period can join. Some folks I never saw before were joining my game....
Not sure I like this idea. It really doesn't take long at all to wreck someone's work in Minecraft. Not long at all.
So it's not necessarily anyone.....
Other games have search features, so it's not quite the same.....

Except you can't blacklist people, so....
If it's not Invite only, then anyone on your friends list, your friends friends list, or your recently played with list can join.
