I do understand that with the platform there are limitations to what will be available as far as add-ons go, but I'd really like to see some basic texture packs (16x16) made available for use. I really like what they did with the MiniDoku Customiser that allows you to pick and choose from a set of textures all around the same theme that is available for PC.
I know most people will want the higher resolution packs like painterly, ornate, etc. but I would be perfectly satisfied with even some of the basic resolution packs. For me the atmosphere created by using this pack really brings the world to life and I have a hard time finding the same enjoyment when playing with the vanilla textures after spending any time at all in my PC worlds.
I can do without the mods and even deal with the limited world size (although this is my #1 disappointment), but without texture packs the level of immersion is limited. For me this is only compounded by the upcoming adventure updates. I think a texture pack like MiniDoku is ideal because is it maintained by fans of the pack, not the original creator, and it is very polished for a pack of this resolution so I hope 4J is looking at options such as this for DLC.
I don't really see how not having texture packs limits the immersion of the game...
Texture packs are great. Looking at the default textures after a while is boring. They don't quite mesh with a lot of designs. It makes sense to relate them to immersion.
Load up Doku, Last Days, John Smith, VonDoom, etc and you have a "whole new world" that's a lot prettier, darker and realistic or scary.

I've used all of those on the PC. I just don't feel that it bothers me to stare at the same textures for the rest of the time I play the game.
