Will 4J do this? By this I mean will they make the worlds generate more chunks so we can get the newer items and newer world structures. I know 1.7.3 doesn't really add anything but when 1.8.1 comes I want to be able to play my old world that I've played probably almost 24 hours worth on now.
worlds are generated upon creation of them thats it. they will never be regenerated every. There is no way of knowing what u actually dont want to be regenerated etc for this to work. As always with any uptdates to the game. If you want your map to use or take advantage of it you MUST create a new map. The only time u will ever be able to use new stuff is like new items like pistons or creatables etc.

Actually, as a programmer myself, I know that it is possible for them to expand the world into the unused area around the map. This is what the OP is asking, not if you can regenerate already existing content, but extend the world past the initial boundaries. Knowing that is possible from a programming standpoint, and the fact that they made all of the borders ocean/sea, it is very easy to extend. In fact I am hoping that is the plan, being that the PC version is essentially endless you can go to a different section that hasn't been explored to find new content. Being that the xbox really doesn't have this unlimited capacity, it is nice to think that they are holding back expansion of the world so we have "unexplored" territory that can generate that new content (i.e. strongholds, mine shafts, and ravine's. )
I had clay generate in my unexplored portions of my old world after the update. Also the topic creator is wondering if 4J will expand our existing maps to a larger size adding in the new world biomes to the new sections. That would be a cool solution if they did it.
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
If they increase the size of worlds, perhaps they will allow current worlds to generate new territory beyond the previous bounds, but I seriously doubt it. There's no confirmation yet that they will even increase world size, so until we know for sure they will increase world size, this is all a moot point.
The clay was always here before the update, the map is all generated when you created the first time.
That's actually not true! Chunks aren't generated until you get close enough to them for the first time, and thus won't be saved unless they've been 'explored'. Clay patches can only happen in worlds that were made pre-patch in sections that haven't been explored, unless they've met the conditions necessary for them to spawn where the z and x coordinates are the same in chunks that have been explored..
Any 'new' (i.e. chunks newly generated or explored) will be made with the same seed data, but with the updated algorithms. Already existing chunks, or ones that were already generated prior will have no change.
For example: A world I made before the Jungle biome or Villages were added in will have jungles and villages, but ONLY after I've walked past where I previously explored, and minecraft generates the new chunks using the new material ratio and biome types of the updated data.
4J IS most likely to expand the world size because of the future updates like 1.8 WHICH IS about adventuring new unexplored lands in an unlimited array of land not a 1024 x 1024 space. So most likely the will expand world size. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
If minecraft cannot put in at least bigger maps, 4J is an epic failure. I'm not saying I dislike them, they did a great job on minecraft. What I'm saying is that there are indie games (and they can only use a portion of the memory that arcade games can) that have infinite worlds, or near infinite. If we can't get bigger worlds, I think that's sad.
Yeah the limited world size is really making me regret I didn't just purchase the pc version. For some reason I decided to wait for xbox but didn't read the limitations closely enough nor understand at the time just how limited the "limited world" really turns out to be...
Oh and it's been said that the reason we're so limited is the split-screen 4p mode which basically quadruples the amount of processing each xbox needs to do. I play solo, so it's very disappointing that a mode I never use causes the entire game to be 1/4 the size it could/should be.
I don't see why other sandbox games are able to have unlimited worlds but Minecraft can't. Unless Minecraft somehow takes more to run.
Xbox 360s have 512 MB of RAM. That's less than most old computers, meaning they can't handle infinite maps. Hence the 360 version's horrible rendering. Larger maps might be possible, but infinite maps are unlikely.

Okay, but if anyone else hasnt played copies of minecraft " CastleminerZ" The world size is unlimited dont give out information you dont know please. But I must say after you do reach about the 40000 block away from the spwn point lag does start to happen and u can glitch through blocks so how about 30000 x 30000 array of space. I think we could live with that
The problem is that they don't want to make the savegames too large. People might start complaining if half their storage space was a single Minecraft map...

that is horribly inaccurate, my old laptop only had 512 mb of ram and i was able to still play...
Please 4J expand the worlds each update!
Sorry

If that is the intention...we will see

Keep yourself up to date with the Minecraft Forum rules!

At 60 fps in 720p splitscreen multiplayer with an equivalent video card to the Xbox while hosting a server with 8 players? Naaaah.
You'd be surprised.....
