Hi, I'm looking for a way to make a safe for my valuables. I plan on making a small room made of furnaces. All surfaces 3 furnaces thick.and an iron door. Obviously putting the switch right next to the door is a bad idea so I'm trying to figure out how to hide it. Anyone have an idea how to make it so the switch works at a long distance using redstone dust?
Go to youtube and look up "combination lock" use this combo lock next to your door and set it to about 5 or 6 buttons but only use 3 buttons and have the other two or three reset the whole thing so noone can just guess the lock. I warn you though these are not easy contraptions to build.
You can use redstone repeaters as delays, press LT on the repeater 3 times. (3 times is max delay)
You can link multiple repeaters together to create a longer delay.
Make sure you place the repeaters going from button to door, if they are facing the wrong way it will not allow the electricity from the button/lever to pass through it. (as repeaters act like diodes)
Problem is nothing is safe as people can just blast in the room, if someone is wanting to get your stuff they will have the equipment needed to take anything out.
My advice anything you really want to keep hidden you stash in a really obscure part of the seen and use your imagination for it.
eg : 1 bit of dirt as a marker at bottom of a small lake but a few places over under some sand place a chest.

I like to hide my valuables in large trees (the kinds that have wood branches extending from the trunk) by replacing one of the wooden blocks with a chest and then obscuring it with more wood blocks

This is what I learned to do. In one server I had a mine/staircase coming from my basement to a branch mine near bedrock. I placed the double-chest in the wall in there. I just used torches as markers. 6th torch down or something like that and look to the left. Hid it in the wall about 6 blocks in. Always carried around a stack of stone to close back up the wall. No one ever found it even though we had greifers and thieves come into the server and take everyone's stuff. I just left everything non-valuable on the surface and put everything valuable in the hidden chest. Buried treasure!
You could set up that safe though, do it out of obsidian and make it a couple blocks thick so it takes a while to get into. Put dirt in the chest and only dirt. Wait til someone breaks into it, watch them see there's only dirt in there, then kill them and take their stuff.

Good idea. To make double sure i'll make a safe under the nearby lake. Now to find an under water room with air tutorial.
