You may remember me from the controversial dup'ing thread, where I was upset at the dup'ing glitch being removed as it will limit my creativity...
Well I'd like to share my latest built wif you all if you'd care to see
It is my new apartment complex in my city which was inspired by the Petranos Towers in Malaysia (but is not trying to be a replica) and my good minecraft buddy who built a similar building and inspired me because I loved his so much
It is made up of 2 main towers that are joined at the base by a large lobby & atrium, and also by a skybridge approx one third of the way up the towers... The towers are 13 stories each in total, each containing an observation deck at the top, a foyer area at the bottom and 11 fully detailed apartments (with bathroom/ working shower etc all included) in between.
It took me 2 complete days of playing in total to complete, approximately 17 hours... Not including the 3'ish hours I spent planning it in my minecraft excel building template..
Here are a few pictures (Sorry for the picture quality, they were taken with my mobile phone).
Work begins... The staircases are built and encased with glass for safety, and segments of the flooring are in place:
Buildingggggggggggg away:
Inside the fully decorated apartments (which include seperated bathrooms with working showers etc):
Inside the main foyer, looking back towards the entrance:
Pool inside the main foyer:
View from inside the Skybridge:
Complete... After 17hrs of building... (about 7hrs of which was just decorating the apartments etc):
I hope you all like it, it took me a lot of work, a lot of time went into detailing the insides and making it fully functional with very nice stair case systems, working showers in the apartments & everything fully signposted etc...
Now some of you may understand why duping added so much benefit to some of us, there's no way I could have built this without the dup'ing of resources... (eg, approx 400 blocks of diamond)
Fair enough :), but I'd jus like to point out that dup'ing is what made it possible in the first place... There are over 400 blocks of diamond, each block requires 9 diamonds to make, so thats 3600 diamonds that would need to be mined, not to mention enough lapis lazuli to make over 1500 blocks of light blue wool...
Regardless if you have unlimited supply of materials, the structure still won't build itself, it still takes HOURS upon HOURS of accurate planning and building to make this happen.
It isnt just some empty shell building, it is fully functional and decorated, every single apartment is decorated with beds, chests, furness, crafting tables, tables & chairs, plants, wall pictures & even bathroom with toilet & working shower with running water etc...
Every, single, room....
To you, how I got the supplies might ruin it, but I'm still happy I managed to create it.

I don't find diamond blocks as nice looking as other people. I don't use Diamond, Gold, or Iron to build. My friends and I are working on something similarly large but all legit.
Like I said though. Still impressive. Regardless of the duping, it still did take time to make. That is the impressive part, not all the fancy blocks in my opinion.

I dont usually use diamond blocks etc either, infact this is the first time ive ever used diamond blocks in my city and ive built 7 major projects in my city aside from these towers...
I just thought the stone/diamond/glass look suited the building, and it constrasts to my other buildings.

It may be duped but I really like it! You still built it in survival which means you couldn't fly and still took damage and whatnot. I'm still impressed. Getting supplies is one thing but the engineering of it is another thing. Good job.
I like it! However, it looks like the Diamond Blocks were there...just because you could duplicate. I just get some kind of vibe that it would look prettier if it was just something simpler, like Stone. If you wanted to show off the duping, I would prefer you have used Lapis Lazuli Blocks to Blue Wool. Anyway, glad you're proud!

As I said, ive built several major buildings in my city before and have not used diamond etc... i wasnt trying to show off dup'ing, i just thought the blue/white/silver colours looked nice on this building...
The reason I chose diamond blocks instead of any other blue is because they shine and look metalic, like blue steel... and they look good next to glass.
Another reason why i chose the diamond colour is because it contrasts to my other buildings which are gray/black/sandstone etc... it helps make this building stand out when looking side by side with my others.
It's not about being diamond or being able to dup, it was about the colour scheme and metallic look to it, if it was just a blue metal block that was common as sand and NOT diamond, I still would have used it, for the look.
love your project, working on one of my own, trying to make a city too (~200x200) and all i can think of is what i wouldnt give to have an infinite dirt source to flatten out the land sucks to run off and spend 50 stone shovels to take out half a mountain only to find out it wasnt enough dirt to finish off a quarter of the city.

Jyggalag's forces are gathering in the Fringe...And I HATE IT when people gather forces in my Fringe!

Thanks :), and omg I know exactly what you mean, for each of my builds I do my landscaping first, making sure the land is flat, holes for pools etc are dug, any water-way channels are pre-dug etc and I'd guess that I spend at least 2hrs on every building just making sure the land is flat...

Ah...200x200. Most of my terraforming, at least on the Xbox 360 Edition, involves building over the land. I guess I start building at higher heights than the rest of my grounds.
If you don't want to spend a lot of time, I would suggest you dupe the walls and ceiling of it. It took me a month and a half building only a 205x90 city surrounded by Stone and with Gravel streets. Was the effort of being legitimate worth it? I think it was, but if you just want speed and efficiency, delete the update and start breaking Furnaces and Dispensers like a madman. You won't be able to affect the Leaderboards stats while offline, making it perfectly harmless in this specific situation. Again, I think it takes a majority of the effort out, but it's your metropolis.
Very cool. I actually like the way the diamond looks with the stone/glass combo. I used to work in construction, so I have a fascination with building houses, usually "free-hand" mansions, and using good looking combos is what I find the coolest about Minecraft buildings, and I think you found a great combo for your complex.

Thanks :), yeah I love the way it looks, I chose the diamond blocks just because it was a metallic blue look, not just because it was diamond like some are thinking
It compliments the stone and glass really well and makes it pop I think

I don't believe there even is enough diamond / lapis lazuli to make that without duping either way, due to the world size restrictions. I may be wrong, though.
Excellent build, well done can imagine how long it took even with dupe not a fan but agreed you have to dupe to do that kind of build (in them colors lol)
Nice build, too bad its people like you who keep using exploits like the dupping glitch which cause's updates to be delayed as it has to be looked back and fixed. Castleminerz is a good example of this.
And ActiveHate, in her previous thread as she mentioned in her first message, she had said she didn't want creative mode because she still wanted the survival aspect of the game. She's just a lowly dupper through and through.

^^^ this.
you could've used light blue wool or something. I bet the glass isn't legit either.

Light blue wool is the carpet inside, would look weird to make it the building structure also.
Thank you
You are right, it allows me to build stuff like this that otherwise would not be possible.
