I would like a survival island type of deal maybe. DLCs should definitely not be normal updates though. That'd be dumb.

i think they should be mods like mo creeps and weirdos, mo creatures, and any other really popular mod out there i also think they might have skins for sale but they probably would only cost about very little micro points if any at all as of texture packs i think those should come with a small price but not free.
If they make people pay for the simple things like maps and texturepacks, then they are just ripping off the community. The fact you'll have to possibly BUY skins for xbox, even if you already own an MC account on PC, is total BS.

You will have to buy skins. 4J has already confimerd Skins will be coming out close to when they put out 1.7.3.

You're joking right? In order for 4J to update the game they have to make a profit somewhere along the lines. After all they are a buisness and have to pay employee salaries. Not to mention they have a multitude of other expenses to keep their company running.
Sure charging 1600 points for the game helps but when ithey have to work on the game for the next several months eventually they're going to burn through that capital prettty quickly. If that means we have to pay a couple hundred points for extra features so be it...Just be glad they were able to negotiate with microsoft and get free title updates.
I don't know about that: 1600 points is AU$30 (roughly) and they surpassed two million sales I read, which is probably continuing. The advantage of continual updates is continual interest from players, and therefore continual word-of-mouth and continual free advertising on every gaming news site. Minecraft getting a bug patch was top news on gaming news sites. A patch. A patch isn't a patch on the updates, so if the next one comes next month as is foretold, that's massive free publicity once a month each month after release.
Essentially, they'd be mad not to do the free updates. It was a major factor in me buying the game at such a high price, and it's worth a fortune in future sales.
While it's true Minecraft did very well in terms of sales it's still completely illogical for a buisness to give their product away. We paid for the game and we shouldn't expect to get all this extra stuff like texture packs, skins, etc... for free. It's extra content that didn't really need to be in the game to begin with so it's only fair we compensate them for their time and consideration. I mean would you go into work and tell your boss you're going to work for free that day?
They've already stated title updates are going to be free which I thought was rather nice seeing as how the game is like you said worth a fortune. Microsoft could have easily said no to this but they seen this as an opportunity to make this great title exclusive to their system and essentially steal it from their competitors. If it had been any other game with a lower popularity I don't think they would have been given the same treatment.

UPDATES TAKE SO LONG
I will tell you one thing, the first piece of DLC will be Skins.

Pre-made skins? Or can you get your own skin? D:
