I recently started a new world, made a bed and went in a cave o-o. I placed my bed down and 2 furnaces to the right of the bed(top part). Their is some stone to the left the bed(top part). I have a work bench to left of the bed(bottom part) and nothing to the right bottom part of the bed. Monsters spawn when I got to sleep...
On my first world I made a shack on a sand mountain and 2 beds (1 for my friend) and put them on the right side 2 blocks apart touching the wall and me and my friend played splitscreen without the trouble unless we were outside camping sometimes they got in the tent but ever since the update I havn't been able to sleep without having to put my bed next to the door then removing it in the morning so if anybody has a fix so I can set spawn tell me....
