I love how people here make up reasons it doesnt work. I know mine spawns into the nether in a good place because I have already been there a few times and have never saved there.
I think they are just throwing ideas out there to narrow down the possibilities. None of these options are foolproof.
Two things on this: Number one, the dupe glitch, which was supposed to have largely been fixed with the update, has nothing to do with the op. I myself have been experiencing this issue, and I absolutely refuse to use the dupe glitch. Number two, this is one of a few issues going to/from the nether, the others being that you would instead be transported to The Void, as well as bad spawn points upon first entering the nether. One of those problems corrected with the update patch.
I do have my doubts that saving while in the nether is what is causing the problem, as I save prior to entering the nether, and experience the freezing after spending mere moments in it. My advice is to save prior to entering, turn off auto saves while in the nether, and otherwise avoid it unless you need to get something from there. Frustrating, yes, but hopefully the upcoming version update patch will allay the problems
Did that, actually... Created the new portal today around 3ish. Freezes immediately when I try and enter. Just tried this whole "cache" thing and it doesn't help either. I say it's still bugged.
Hey guys after experiencing this problem my self I was just going crazy trying to find answers, but not before I kept trying to do everything I could to restore my save game to normal-minus the freeze coming out of the nether... anyways I read all the things everyone contributed and applied them and after awhile I simply killed my pix-elated loveable character in the nether and it spawned me on my surface world! But i didnt want to lose my items, so I decided not to save in the surface world and proceeded to starting up in the nether, luckily for me i had carried chest with me and i was able to drop off all items and then jumped in to a warm pool of lava, I spawned on my surface world, saved, then went back to the nether picked up my stuff, exited the nether (this time it worked NO FREEZE or LAG), then everything was back to normal
Pre-update, I was able to randomly enter/exit the Nether using the suicide & return method described above. Post-update, however, it seems I cannot enter the Nether without it freezing 100% of the time, so getting back out is moot. Don't even have the luxury of worrying about returning to the mainland at this point, and bummed b/c I need some more glowstone!
Saving in the nether isn't what's doing it, I have saved my progress in the nether loads of times & mine doesn't crash when entering or exiting the nether. (touch wood)
It could be down to a bad HDD that's corrupting the save, has anyone tried starting a new game but saving it to USB & creating a nether portal to see if it crashes.
My world is on the internal storage (4gbs) but I have worlds on my main HDD & none crash.
ON both ends
Still the nether is buggy at best
