I built a nether portal in my world before the patch and anytime I tried to go through it the game crashes and I have to restart my whole xbox. So I tore it down, moved it and tried again. Same thing. Crash. Restart. So I waited for the patch to come out. Well, it's here! I downloaded the patch and loaded my world. Same thing. Could it be my xbox going bad? Is this an issue anyone can fix?
I created a new world and within 90 mins the xbox froze up, not convinced about these fixes !
I am going to go with it is your xbox. Take it apart and clean out the dust bunnies. You'll be amazed how much junk you'll find.
Dupping does not corrupt saves.
Also consider that destroying the portal in the overworld may not be the clean up, and its the nether portal that might be crashing. start a new map or get far from you original overworld point. Far means far, at least half the overworld map distance.

I have the same problem. I was excited when they announced the fix today, but when I went into the Nether to test it, the game crashed just as it had been doing. Maybe I need to start a new map.

.....
As an IT professional, I can tell you that dust bunnies do not corrupt files. They may cause your xbox to crash from overheating, but it won't directly corrupt a file (unless that file was open during the crash).
Dupeing, on the other hand, was taking advantage of a 'glitch' in the code, and once you do that, you've stepped outside of the approved, tested uses of the code. There's no telling what will happen then... but, much like natural selection, most glitches (genetic variations) cause more harm than good.
The duping glitch is a GLITCH. IT'S A GODDAMN GLITCH and it has other ramifications. Get over it. If you want "Creative Mode", then either wait for it to come out on XBLA, or buy the PC version.
Just because you f*d up your world by exploiting a glitch doesn't give you reason to gripe. Start over, and get over it.

Chill. I'm not the the one with the gripe.
Game crashing after 30 mins sounds like overheating, hence cleaning the box out. No where did I state dust will corrupt files. I did however state dupping won't corrupt the save, hence dupping does not seem to be the root of a nether crash. Not encouraging it, but I haven't had any problems due to it.
This ain't creation/glitch debate... Save your apparent rage for that thread. OP s looking for solution or causes for nether crashes. (Man, some of you minecrafters are ticking mini nukes)
1. Map generation. Make a new map
2. Overworld/nether portal is in some bad chunk and another has to be created far enough from original to search and determine a new one.(half the map distance at least)
3. The box is overheating, clean it
4. Game corrupted. Clean cache, delete map data, delete game, redownload. (do utterly last, but in order, play between steps)
5. Turn off auto save(new feature) since it was possible that saving the game while in the nether can cause a crash(see wiki).(before latest update)
6. Sacrifice the nearest troll to the game gods.
Good luck. Not a "professional", just a fellow gamer. Haven't had a crash yet... Knock on wood and send in the next troll!

UPDATE TO MY POST!
I uninstalled the game, cleared the cache and redownloaded and... THE NETHER WORKS AGAIN! Thanks for all the help guys. I haven't been to The Nether since the second day the game was out because of this problem and to think I could have fixed it myself the whole time.
And now it's freezing again. It worked the first time I loaded my world after I reinstalled and cleared cache but after I exited and reloaded, it freezes again. bummer.

Did it auto save while you were in the nether?
Did you save in the nether?
Are you using the same map? Same portal?

I love how people here make up reasons it doesnt work. I know mine spawns into the nether in a good place because I have already been there a few times and have never saved there.

..cuz if you did, that file might be corrupted.
Way easier to just find some lava, get a few buckets, and cast the thing in place
