Save your sugar cane. When enchanting is added it'll be nice to have a stock of reeds ready to go for the books and bookshelves :]
Aside from the novelty value cakes are pretty much useless anyway.
Except they stack, kinda sorta. Haven't actually ate one yet. But I read each cake has six slices, so you get 6 uses. What I didn't realize (but just read) is that you have to put the cake down somewhere to eat it. And you can't retrieve the cake after you put it down. So cake is really only good for when you need the full 6 hearts worth. I thought you could carry it around and eat one piece (one heart) at a time. Oh well. Really waiting on pistons, that's when the real fun begins. And animal breeding so we can keep a farm for our very own.
