With 4 major version and probably (guess) as many bug fixes there could be anywhere from 6-8 distinct version of Minecraft XBE floating around the forums. I know everyone is supposed to stay online and update, but with 2.5mil users, there are bound to be some stranglers. And if any of those straglers post bugs, it would be good to know their version.
So.. my proposal is for 4J to list the current version somewhere in game. I think the "What's New" page that they introduced would probably be the best place. This is common practice in other environments. Windows apps usually have an "about" dialog, Linux utilities usually have a version parameter you can throw.
Minor request...
BTW... Love the new stuff, but what should we call this version. I heard "update 2" floating around and "1.6.6" as the base. So perhaps 1.6.6u2.
Agree.
They should put on the splash screen the xbox version number (starting with 1.0)
Heck, even the PE one has it's own version number (now up to 0.3.0 alpha).
All the more reason to actually publish the version number in whatever format 4J wants. I'm simply choosing a common convention in lieu of an actually convention being stated.
It is also not uncommon for a company working a port (direct or otherwise) to adopt the version scheme of the source code they reference. But I don't really care... Call it release May, June, July. So long as we have a common way to reference.
Quick, demand that they change the front page of the Wiki immediately! We can't have people thinking the Xbox Edition is version 1.6.6!

1.6.6 Vanilla
1.6.6 Dispenser-o-pocalypse / Dupe-ageddon
The Xbox 360 Edition is it's own version of 1.0 or now 1.1 because of the bug fixes. 4J has said the Xbox version is it's own game, not a direct port.
