I know... $20 right. Well not so much for me. Don't get me wrong, I like Mojang, and 4J and got no problem with their mountain of money... but the Xbox stuff is getting sick.
$200 - Xbox (used - $200) a year ago - one controller. ( I won't include that this one)
--
$75 - 3x Controllers @ $25 + tax
$20 - Chatpad for world seeds and signage
$20 - Harddrive
$30 - Xbox WiFi adpater
$20 - Game
$0 - The 10+ hours spent getting the network and Live Accounts set up (ports opened, xbox patched, router configured).
All told $165 plus some many hours of frustration combing through XBL connection failure codes to finally determine that a usb-boot patch was required.
Here's hoping that DLC isn't gonna require gold-membership but I'm not holding my breath. So I'm likely adding another $100 a year for my family Gold membership, plus whatever they are gonna charge for the DLC... Jez!
I'm not going to include the price of my Xbox and TV or anything, but it's something like this:
$20 - family copy
$20 - friend's copy
$20 - other friend's copy
$26 - friend's copy on PC
$94 - new router because Belkin sucks at UPnP.
$75 - new RAM to host PC server for friends returning to PC MineCraft
The only thing that shouldn't really be on your list is the Chatpad. That was completely optional and isn't needed at all. And in my opinion, no game is worth spending all that money on, not even Minecraft.
Considering Ive had my xbox for 6+ years now (Since it came out, I honestly dont remember the year)
I got my 360 slim around the same time Reach came out. hmm
So...
360 Slim: 300 bucks or so when I got it
My two white controllers are from the one xbox I had, both of which I got with it
My black controller came with the slim
My Reach controller I got for Christmas
So controller 0$
Hardrive I "ported" from my regular xbox to my slim so again 0$
Wifi comes with my cable so I'm not marking that in either
20$ for the game
60$+ for countless other xbox 360 titles.
So
300$ Xbox Slim
20$ Minecraft
But I'm going to subtract about 60$ x about 30 or so for all the other games I have from the cost of the Xbox Slim
DL Code from Gamestop - $21.95
Used Xbox HD Component Cable - $12 (Only because my brother and I wanted to play splitscreen, but something I needed anyway. Xbox looks great in HD :P)
$14 for the original PC Minecraft
$20 for the xbox version
$399 for the xbox
$800 for the tv it's on
$0 for the table it sits on (Hand me down)
$72,900 for the house I play it in.
Add in all the maintenance to keep the house liveable enough to play in, property taxes paid over the years, the food it has taken to sustain me all these years to be able to play...
I'd say Minecraft has cost me about a quarter million dollars or so.

Games just keep getting more and more expensive I swear.
If buying Minecraft means including everything that you needed to play that game with, plus a lot of optional stuff, I own about 10,000 dollars worth of games. :|

Yeah... probably wouldn't have either... At first it was just the game, wifi, and HD, but then when all the kids in the neighborhood started playing, the extra controllers where a natural progression. We just wrote it off as a creativity tool. Heck most complex lego kits these days run $50-$70 dollars. Ironically, I think we've probably spent more on dolls + accessories than we did on Minecraft.
Honestly the only thing that really bothers me is the thought of having to buy a Gold membership from Microsoft. That just seems like extortion honestly.

LOL..
Don't forget all the food and water to keep the reflexes sharp so as not to impede your gaming. 1/4 Mil per pop... 4J must be rolling in it!
$15 from best buy... Also why would anyone ever buy an Xbox 360 just to play Minecraft? Buying all of what you bought just to play a ~$20 game is insane.
Since I play games primarily on the Xbox, it cost me ~$21 dollars to buy just the points card from a CVS. I also bought the wolf and the minecraft shirt, but I already had some extra points.

Already had the Xbox.... the real burn was all the d4mn controllers, drive and wifi.
point is all about how much residuals M$ makes off games like this. It's possible that I'm the only one of the 2mil that actually upgraded their crusty old Xbox to play this, but I think that is unlikely.
Then you add in Kinect to the picture and there's another mountain of cash.
Interesting to watch a software company pedal hardware.

Oh, I did buy 2 months of XBL for $2 and I probably wouldn't have if it weren't for MC.

I just wanted to build her a nice house ;(
Wow, you're home is MUCH cheaper then anything around here. To get a house at that cost I'd have to go back to 1980. =)
Small house bought back in '99 when things weren't anywhere near as crazy as they got between 2000-2008.
This thread bores me.
