Basically If I have mx Xbox hooked up to an HDTV using an HDMI cable then my Xbox will restart whenever:
I turn my TV off and back on (stays on when TV off, restarts when TV turned on)
or
I change the channel and change it back (stays on when channel is changed, restarts when channel is changed back)
I've been experiencing this issue since the last Xbox Dashboard Update.
I've experienced this with multiple Xboxs and multiple TVs.
Anybody know a fix for this??
I have a launch (ancient) 360 and a samsung 50in. plasma hooked to hdmi and i turn my tv off all the time and leave the xbox on to run the server.
Yeah, it makes more sense that it's the HDMI being plugged in along with the A/V for the Turtle Beach headset I use causing a bit of confusion for the system.
In fact, I just tested it out, pulled the A/V cable out of the back of my xbox, and switched source, then back to the xbox and no restart. Oh well, pretty much means no 24/7 server hosting out of my xbox.

I leave TV on... Has a screen saver/dimmer option.
SuperCarl got it right - the Xbox goes flakey when it can't detect a video out. One of mine used to red ring if I turned off a certain model TV (I think it was an LG?). Doesn't happen on my Samsung anymore.
I believe this is intended to happen. By the way this has nothing to do with Minecraft.
Sure it does, Do you leave any other games you play on all night only to wake up, turn on your television, and realize it is restarting and you will have to tell your freinds?: "Gee guys I hope you didn't wast hours of your life last night on my server...."
I know I don't, this being said I figure heck maby some other people do this too and could answer my question for me....
I have this issue too. From my research this apparently only happens with the older style Xboxes that had HDMI support (in other words, the Elite, and the regular Pro/Arcade that had the updated motherboard with HDMI). Newer "Slim" versions don't do it as far as I know.
While I haven't yet tested it completely, I am planning on running a smart HDMI splitter which should (in theory) hold the HDMI handshake to the Xbox 360 without causing a reset. If it's really causing hassles for you, this might be an option. For the moment, I went back to using the component cable.
This is not an issue it is how HDMI works. The digital connection requires a handshake between devices and when u power down a device and turn it back on or switch it has to reinitiate the handshake. Thus rebooting the system. PC's do not need to do this cause of how you can go in and change the driver settings etc. Its basically the same thing as turning monitors off and on... xbox's are not so nice cause we dont have an os to change settings like pcs..
There are some tv's that do no power down the HDMI ports and since they do not power down the handshake is not lost thus keeping the xbox on and not rebooting. But 90% of tv's do power down everything when turned off. So most of you will have this problem.
Workaround: I connect a PC cord to my TV and take it up to 1080. This will not reboot the xbox cause its a standard connection type that doesnt need a handshake. Then you can turn off whenever u want and no reboots. Cause i mean in all reality wtf is the point in HD if its minecraft... It doesnt look any better :)...
It IS an issue with HDMI, but more specifically with how the Xbox 360 handles HDMI. As I said, the later model Slim 360s don't (as far as I know) have the reset issue, it's only the Elite and versions based off that motherboard.

Other variables keep me from having a server up all the time as well, for example griefing "friends" and such.
But the launch Xbox version didn't have HDMI.....

I was right.
Also happens without games.
