Cakes! If you will pardon the pun, this food item takes the cake for "neat item, but really not very useful or practical in the game" for me.
Creating it costs you many ingots because apparently we are melting down and eating the iron in the bucket of milk as well... plus eggs, which are not terribly common (for me at least). It has eight uses, they say... big whoop, I can carry a stack of 64 wheat and make loaves on the fly when I need them.
But I can't even EAT the cake. When I have it readied, it places it per a decorative item. Thinking this is weird, I started bashing on it to get it back into my inventory, and poof -- it was gone.

you can only eat food when your damaged, and you eat it when your hurt
I made Cake just for the achievement then, used it as decoration next to lava flow in my house. Now a wolf is guarding my Lava Cake It may come in handy next time a zombie wakes me up though.....
