Has anyone else had trouble planting seeds lately? I know how to farm, done it many times. But now seeds only place in diagonal pattern and then break after about 10sec..

That's quite an odd claim ya got there. Seeds will fail if...
1. If the soil is not plowed
2. If there is not water close to the soil
3. If the soil is not tilled
4. If you walk on it.
If your a person who constantly walks over their crops, click the right joystick to sneak.
Sneaking will allow you to walk over crops.
I saw a thread on this yesterday. I don't get it. Farming has worked fine for me so far. There hasn't been an update, so nothing has changed. I haven't needed to harvest wheat in a while, though. I wonder if it has anything to do with the whole not being able to place lava or water within 30 blocks of the spawn. Is your farm near your original spawn point, by any chance?
Well, the problem is not enough light. the same problem happens when netherwart is not lit up enough or when mushrooms get a block update. Try adding more light!
