Last night while doing some cave exploring and gathering of resources with buddies online, I was telling them of some of the new features that are part of the latest PC update and what they can expect, although prolly a year from now. They both never played Minecraft before the Xbox version came out, but now they are really getting into it and I can tell they are both intriqued by the new features that are going to be added. They definitely liked the sound of the new biomes and the larger world, not to mention the XP system with enchantments. At least one of them I'm sure is going to pick up the PC version out of curiousity.
I can definitely tell that the Xbox version will actualy help the sales of the PC version just because of the diversity that the PC version offers in comparison, although the Xbox version has felt more social than I ever experienced on the PC while being on servers with people I knew.
I never played PC because my computer couldn't handle it and the last time I tried it was the first alpha release. I didn't understand it at the time, just seemed weird.
After buying the 360 version, looking up info on the internet and realizing everything it was missing, I wished I could play the PC version. Fortunately I just bought a new laptop that can run the game easily, so I decided to jump into the full version.
That's not to say I don't enjoy the 360 version (I much prefer using a controller to a keyboard), but playing it definitely led to me buying the full game. Buying both is still cheaper than a full 360 game anyway.
I play both versions and I'm slowly getting people that already spent the money on the 360 Ed. to pick up the PC version, too. It's kind of annoying. The 360 Ed. is certainly starting to feel like a demo of what MineCraft has become (which is sort of is - this is still a beta version while we're in release on PC).
Please enlighten me to what is exactly missing from Minecraft - Xbox 360 Edition. Kindly do not compare to the PC version, as the clue is in the title of said game.
What a ridiculous thing to say.
For those that have played MineCraft before, the "MineCraft Experience" you get in the 360 Edition and the Pocket Edition is simply not the same thing. The expectation that they will be similar is undeniable, yet some of the most interesting features haven't yet made it into either edition. Personally, I'm willing to give MineCraft: PE some slack for being on a mobile platform, but.... that's my personal opinion.
Stating that you cannot compare MineCraft to MineCraft: 360 Ed to MineCraft: Pocket Ed. is a bit like saying you aren't allowed to compare models of automobiles from GMC - at the end of the day, you expect them to all have a steering wheel, bumpers, 4 tires and an engine. You may get 5 tires and a sunroof on certain models - but you generally don't get a vehicle without seats and floors.
To many people, MineCraft is MineCraft, you know? Doesn't matter if you personally are experiencing version 1.6.6 for the first time. Many others are running about the 360 Edition trying to find ravines and mineshafts that aren't there, or missing creative mode.
Finally, MineCraft: 360 Ed. is a direct port. That means it's quite literally the same game - just an older version that's missing features from future versions. Pretty obvious how that relationship works.
Speaking of missing features, where's my "cross-functionality between Xbox and PC"?
you do realise that it was microsoft who said minecraft would have cross-funtionality and not 4J
Not sure how this is relevant. Are you trying to say that 4J isn't responsible for the commitments Microsoft made during the announcement on a game they worked on with Microsoft Studios to release? That doesn't make sense. Are you saying these boards are isolated to 4J only topics and not MineCraft? That really doesn't make sense.
, we also don't have the kinect functionality which was mentioned as well. At the moment we don't know if and when these features will become avaliable so everyone should just enjoy what we have and enjoy the updates when they arrive.
We do know about the Kinect updates! You should go check into the information we have, including confirmation that it is definitely coming. We don't have that for the other announcements.....
Who cares about cross-functionality? SupaSura, you seem to be the only one who does.
I don't care if it ever comes because it will be worthless when it does. I'm pretty sure we'll never see cross-platform multiplayer. All you'll probably be able to do is link accounts or some other trivial thing that doesn't do anything for the actual game itself.
Who cares about cross-functionality? SupaSura, you seem to be the only one who does.
Microsoft did.
You guys should probably get back on-topic rather than try to dismiss things I say.
Both McAngusYoung and Maces006 (I've spelled your names right, too!) have PC names registered as well as 360. Maybe they can share their experience on if/why they still play the 360/PC version instead/in addition to the PC/360 version.
I started out on the 360 and just bought the PC version yesterday (I also bough the pocket version a couple of weeks ago too so I definitely have a problem!) and I have to say both have there positives and negatives. I like using the controller better then the mouse and keyboard (yeah, I know that's insane talk) but I like the more varied biomes of the PC version. I'm not really liking the hunger aspect of the PC version and I like the crafting better on the 360. The mining does seem to be quicker on the PC version though and I also like the aspect of villages in the PC version (which I'm sure will be on the 360 one day) but I really am enjoying all versions so far!!!
I like using the controller better then the mouse and keyboard (yeah, I know that's insane talk...
I mapped my xbox controller to the PC keyboard... now I can use either.
PC: No end of the world wall. Enchanting. Villages. Mineshafts & Strongholds. Regular beta "snapshot" updates (latest one has tripwires and abandoned jungle temples). Cats. There's just a lot more to *do* in it.
360 has a few things going for it at the moment, and tons of potential. Voicechat is certainly nice, and the crafting system is WAY nicer... no need to keep the wiki open on the second monitor to look up recipes. As it catches up to the PC, it'll become a lot more obvious what isn't there. (or wasn't).
The things you can do with pistons will really amaze people.
Who cares about cross-functionality? SupaSura, you seem to be the only one who does.

I'm in agreement with you, when I heard of cross-play, I was skeptical. Then upon the actual release of the 360 version and they announced it was Beta 1.6.6 and not OR 1.1 or 1.2, I knew it wasn't going to happen.
The whole linking of accounts and such, I do belive that'll prolly happen and is going to be the extent of any cross-platform compatibility between the two.
he definately has a good point here becuase so far the xbox edition currently has more features than the original 1.6.6 of the pc edition
I agree, I love that the game has the new map feature that allows you to see everyone on the map. I couldn't do that in the PC version at all because you could only dupe map_0, unless you were the admin. The Xbox version does some unique things that I actually wish were on the PC version. Even using the new crafting interface on the 360 version has me spoiled cause I'll want to make stuff lightning quick, but I'm left to clicking the mouse to arrange everything.
This is I am lead to believe the Minecraft - Xbox 360 Edition forums, for discussion about ........ Xbox 360 Edition. It's not a discussion forum for what is in the PC version and not in the 360 version.
Sure it is! Considering all of the updates are sourced from PC versions.... well, there's the relationship. Are we permanently banned from talking about Pistons until the drop in an update?
I will never play the PC version and had not heard of it until it came to the Xbox arcade. Your analogy of the vehicles may hold true but you have not spelled Tyres (UK English spelling) correctly so I'll dismiss it. <snip> As regards to missing features there are none on the Xbox 360 Edition. If you are going to compare Xbox to PC then compare the version editions like for like.
So you're one of the ones experiencing MineCraft for the first time on the 360 - that's great. Absolutely nothing wrong with that - as I was saying, some people want to experience MineCraft in all of it's iterations as the same MineCraft they've experienced for the first time. For some people, that's the 360 version. For others (for many, many others) it's the PC version.
My experience is missing generated structures. That isn't a permanent problem. Your experience is complete without them - I enjoy exploring those structures a lot and I bet you will, too. It would be great to share my experiences running through hundreds of blocks of abandoned mineshafts with you as two MineCraft players. We'll have to wait on that until it shows up in an update.
New players from the 360 scene and old players from Alpha have no reason to dismiss opinions about features. Their perception of MineCraft may be slightly different, but it's the same game. There's absolutely no reason to nitpick and insult over whether or not features are "missing" or "just not there yet." There's no reason to dismiss PC features as something the 360 Edition will never have - as 360 is eventually supposed to catch up to current "and beyond" (I think that was the wording).
Want to playa custom map? click my the pickaxe on that top Left of this post and go down to where it says my skype ID, then add me and talk to me about playing!
To someone who has never tasted eggs, scrambled eggs are amazing. Once you've had a Denver omelette, scrambled eggs are... well, just scrambled eggs. There's nothing wrong with the scrambled eggs. Your perception has changed.
There's really nothing wrong, per se, with the 360 version as it stands today (well, if the bug list gets fixed). I still like it, and I still play it.

I have no idea what a Denver omelette is, either. But ya, 4J has only worked out the scrambled eggs right now. They're really awesome scrambled eggs, though.
Does the Xbox 360 Edition not have tires (Tyres for you Meanmint) engine floors a roof and all the basic needs? The Xbox 360 Edition is just like the year old version of the PC version with a few other things added on. Sure I'd like Pistons, Mineshafts and Ravines right now, but hey, I can wait for the Free updates (or added features) to come out later.
And talking about Pistons here is a pretty assanine move. As most of the 360 exclusive users havent used Pistons yet you'll have a much better time of it discussing Pistons in the PC version forums. You're not barred from mentioning it, just everyone's going to look at you and think you're that snobby rich kid talking about his brand new Prius in a bar full of middle class folks driving 20 year old F-150s.
Both are good, but no one cares about your Prius, you sissy, now shut up ^^
Also, sorry if I offended any Prius owners just now =D
Both are good, but no one cares about your Prius, you sissy, now shut up ^^
Nice. I really liked that post.
Pistons were only an example - they're another way we will be able to interact with the worlds we create. Their addition will be pretty soon, too, right? No point in ignoring them entirely because they aren't here yet or dismissing any discussion on how you will soon be able to use them in your world as asinine.
A lot of 360 players are doing the YouTube thing to find new things to build - surely they've seen their fair share of texture packs, pistons, Endermen, Nether Fortresses and more.
Point being, my Prius is a bit of a community ride that everyone has seen other people, including some of their friends, driving around. You won't soon forget it once you've experienced it.
.... that whole thing was really hard not to make innuendo out of....

It'll probably be put in at a later time, not surprised it wasn't available at launch
