Maybe I am not understanding things properly, which may well be the case, mind you. But I really am having a hard time capturing the thinking of some of the posters on this forum. Please don't take this as a troll (and I'm sure many will -- I've refrained from posting this before for just that reason) but I think maybe I'm just plain dumb and missing something here.
I think there's two fundamental things a lot of people are missing around here, or perhaps I'm just totally wrong:
1 Some of us ONLY play the Xbox game. We don't play the computer version period. Maybe we don't care to. Maybe we have our own reasons. (I'm sure this thread will be bursting with "play the computer version" responses. Please re-read those last two sentences.)
2. There is ONE. Uno. Un. Ein. Solemont. Solo. ONE version of Minecraft for the Xbox at the time of this posting, unless I am very badly mistaken. It cannot be modded or upgraded. Talks about versions totally mean nothing until these versions happen for this particular platform.
I've seen (and experienced personally) the head-shaking and eye-rolling (well, in the forums sense of derisive responses) when someone says "But I mean the Xbox version, not the computer version!" I still don't see why this is Dumcluck of the Year material. Because it's true: there is only one X-box version. Ok, replace "Xbox" with "1.6.6" if it really helps you.
But even on the helpful side of things, people are talking about modding, oceleots and things that might as well exist in another game for us Xbox players.
These are the Minecraft Forums and players will have so many different levels of Minecraft selection. That's wonderful. But I really am getting confused at this constant thinking that Minecraft is one game between all platforms, because its not true if you only play one platform and there's only one version for said platform, period. It leads to a lot of solutions and conjecture that just doesn't work at present for XBLA.
I'm sorry if I irritated folks with this, and I'm not trying to presumptiously moderate, but it's something I feel like I have to say as a pure Xbox Minecraft player. It would be one thing for me to take this stance in the General Forums, but this is the Minecraft XBLA forum. I think most posts here should automatically be considered to be talking about only the XBLA version.
Yea its true everybody is comparing a xbla game to a full fledged computer game that has been in the making for much longer so you would not expect it to be the same and all I care about is what I can learn about this version right now.
Yeah another problem is that no onw takes the time to read over or do a simple search for information that constantly gets posts about (updates, pc features not included in xbox, etc.)
There's the PC version.
There's the xbox version.
There's the PE version.
They're all "Minecraft", but they're all different, and while people would love for them to be all to be exactly alike with all the same features and extra goodies... and they keep posting and wishing..... but come on, you know it ain't all gonna happen.
The PC version is where it is today because of the wiki. (Well, these forums and youtube had something to do with it too, but a lot of that came info originally came from the wiki). Can you imagine trying to figure out some of those cool traps and redstone circuits that you love so much on your own? I'll be honest- I couldn't.
I think what people don't take into account is the target audience of the xbox version. It's designed for those new to minecraft.
It's got a tutorial, and a tutorial world to give the beginner some ideas and show them what's possible.
It's got auto-crafting.
It's got tool and item tips.
It does that because there is no wiki a newbie can alt-tab to.
I too think that people are getting hung up on the "version" thing, that the xbox game will/should be "ungraded" to just like the PC version. Instead of the term "version", I think each of the others (xbox, PE) is more like an "interpretation" or "adaptation" of the PC one.
