"Two progressive jackpots happening within the same hour? The odds are in the BILLIONS, I cannot even start to calculate... but THREE? It CAN NOT HAPPEN, you idiot!" -- Sam "Ace" Rothstein, "Casino"
So today I was working on a sublevel and a Creeper appeared, even though I had light EVERYWHERE. The sucker blew up right next to a bookcase, so I lost TONS of books.
That was very annoying, seeing how he wasn't suppposed to be there. But the worst was in store.
Later I was up in my workshop, which is lined with Glowstone. It is DAY BRIGHT 24-7, EVERY INCH. Needless to say, I feel safe in here.
I couldn't believe what happened: I was in my crafting chest, and I hear a creeper hissing. BOOM.
It took out FOUR CHESTS packed with stuff, which I had to scramble to collect before it decayed. It took me half an hour to fix everything... the floor, the chests, the organization.
Games supposed to be fun and challenging. THIS is NOT fun, this is NOT challenging. Because the game is CHEATING. Because this room had no walls and pillars and I am absolutely positively sure there was NO creeper there 3 seconds ago. The room is surrounded by doors, he could not have followed me.
Even if there WAS a creeper I somehow missed entering a 20x20 empty square room, please correct me if I am wrong, there are only TWO ways monsters are supposed to be able to spawn in Minecraft:
In darkness level of 7 or less, which is IMPOSSIBLE, nowhere in the room is less than 12.
From a monster spawner (which I thought couldn't spawn Creepers), within 14 squares. Also impossible, I am 6 sublevels above the ground, 16 squares of air.
Both ways cannot work. I know theres gonna be people saying "Well you suck and you sould have been more careful." Back that up by telling me how that Creeper appeared.
Minecraft is a stronghold game. You gather resources and build your stronghold and stockpile your supplies. Part of these kinds of games is the risk you will lose your supplies.
But these games CAN NOT WORK if there is no condition a player can create where he knows he is 100% safe, in one area at least.
Otherwise, the game is not worth playing. Because that's like saying your RPG character suddenly suffered a stroke and is now dead and your game is over.
That sounds really weird. The only excuse I can think of (other than a glitch) is if you have any mods that do more than you were originally aware. Personally, I think it was some weird lighting glitch.
LOL I had the same thing happen to me in a cave when I had 5 64 stacks of torches and a butt load everywhere else! Haha! It's a beta! It'll be buggy! You need to get over it! It'll be updated soon so make a temporary base and a storage room until the update!

Didn't you post something talking about the same thing before? Or am I mistaken? The ground is probably dark though, that why I put glowstone on the ground of my house

I did. I think it was along the lines of "The coast is clear... HISSS" in the title.
But this just stupid glitch nearly cost me several hours of work. I think it bears repeating.
/EDit, and yes, I do have glowstone in the floor. Still didnt stop it.
Is it dark outside the walls of this room? As in are your walls 1 block wide and there are air blocks outside of them in the darkness or is this room inside a larger lit up structure or underground or something..?
What im getting at is that mobs spawn in packs not individually, therefor the game searches for an air block in darkness and then spawns enemys "around" that air block given the mobs dimensions.
Is it possible for a pack of mobs to spawn right next to your wall allowing one to spawn inside?

There are no mods for the Xbox yet....
yea their is usb mods you can get off the internet.try replacing all of your glow stone and torches.
they are fixing this bug within the next week, check the bug list before posting a bug.
Are you at bedrock? If not check for hollows under your base/room... Monsters seem to spawn, and if there is a area where the floor is one block thick they will spawn in the light and in your room.... Sucks I know, but mill around a bit underneath and track down any dark holes and light them up.
I built an apartment building and there was a gap of three blocks between floors for utility and outer shell shape. Sure enough monsters keep spawning till I lit each sub floor up.. now its all secure.
i'd like to see some screen shots. I have had plenty of creepers sneak up behind me but again I am curious to see your setup to truly give you feedback. My main storage system is at bedrock level and lit up like the sun is shining all the way through the ground. It is possible that one of your corners where you thought that it was light enough it wasn't and he just happened in there. Is it possible that he followed you, or something in the game that has been removed led him to you to give you a hug "wink wink" you know what I mean...but I'm not gonna get banned again for saying it.
wow theres like millions of creepers in my world to thunk about it ill lookaround in a 360 and ill see about 20 its that bad...glad i got my beer and the box that plays NASCAR(a racecar thingl lol) and muy shotgun red neck joke <<
1. I remember reading somewhere that there's a glitch (or bug) that causes mobs to spawn if there are shadows that are 2 blocks high, so if there's even a sliver of area not adaquetly lit then mobs (including creepers) can spawn.
2. Creepers can spawn at night and survive during the day light. It may just have been a creeper who got in or hid when you weren't looking.
Otherwise I really havent had a problem with creepers before, just like the old saying goes:
"I'm not stranger to the risks of mining, I know you dont have to be afraid of the creepers and the like if you watch for them."
This is why I keep my game on peaceful, I just want to build and that it is made way to difficult with creepers spawning in what you would consider a safe zone.

The game picks a block to spawn on. It checks to see if it is transparent, a half step, water, or another block that mobs cannot spawn on. If that check comes back good, then it checks to make sure that there are two air blocks above the spawning block. If that check comes back good, it then checks the light level of the air block directly above the spawning block. If that level is 7 or less, then a pack of mobs can spawn. This means that only the light level on the floor means anything to mob spawning They will form in a cross shaped pattern around the spawning block:
or
where is the spawning block.
The area may be 2 blocks away from the spawning block, I haven't been able to be near enough to see.
I've had mobs spawn in houses before. I've also had to explain to a buddy that made this big 6 tall block room that the chests he was hanging on the walls..... probably had light levels low enough to allow critters to spawn in the corners. Just keep checking your lighting - I think this can even happen in a properly lit room soon after game load.
All it takes is one block with weird lighting to cause it. :\

You do know that creepers can be out in the day for little time. Do you have a door? Because it sounds to me like you don't.Unless you live outside a creeper can not get in.
The strange thing is that mobs aren't supposed to spawn in a spherical radius of 24 blocks around a player, and mobs have a search radius of only 16 blocks (at least those on the overworld). Yet I've had zombies, skeletons, spiders, and creepers spawn more or less right behind me INSIDE MY VERY WELL LIT HOME more often than I care to admit.
I stood right in front of a workbench crafting stuff, and that workbench was in a room with only one entrance on the third floor of my fortress. And to get into that room from the outside, you have to pass through FOUR doors; door leading from the outside to the inner courtyard, door leading from there into the building, door from the staircase to the corridor on that floor, door leading from that corridor into the work room. No chance I accidentally left all of them open. The room was three blocks tall from floor to ceiling, five blocks wide, seven blocks long. The whole floor was made from glowstone, and the ceiling made of glass blocks with lava flowing on top of it; torches on the walls no more than four blocks apart. HISSSS... BOOM. Explain that, please.

Is it a chicken or is it a duck? - It's a chuck, because dicken sounds stupid.

Easy. Big fortress. You probably have one or two dark patches somewhere. Spawned while you were out. You come within 16 blocks of it and it says "Sssssssorry you built a base where I was exploding"

I had been working inside that room for several minutes; smelting cobblestone, dying wool, building a crapload of tools, etc. And at least the door into that room was definitely closed. So the creeper must have spawned inside that room, which violates two rules.1. Can't spawn that close to a player; even when standing in one corner if a 5 x 7 room, the opposite corner is still not 24 blocks away.2. It simply was far too bright. Also, all my walls are at least two blocks thick even at their thinnest spots and even on the upper floors. The floor in that room was two blocks (glowstone with wooden planks below that served as ceiling for the room below), and the ceiling was even four blocks thick; from top to bottom it was wool, cobblestone, lava, glass.
