You mean death notifications. But yes it was added in a later update. You are referring to when "Player killed player with a stone sword" and "Player tried to swim in lava" notice correct?
Yeah, the kill feed/death messages, what ever they call it was in the 1.8 update. This, however, is not a guarantee that they WILL show up in the game. I wouldn't mind them, however, seeing how one of my friends can't get the hang of killing creepers!
What's so hard about saying to your friends "I just killed a Creeper [friend]"or "I just killed a couple of skeletons [friends name], how cool is that?"
With games like Call of Duty, I can understand why they have kill feeds and kill messages because of so many players and such. But with most games in Minecraft that I have seen, it's just four players. Can it be that hard to talk to your friends and the other players in game and just say what you have killed?
Then again, there are some people who do not have a mic and sometimes a good killfeed can help them show what they have killed when they aren't able to talk about what they have killed.
The death messages are displayed when a PLAYER has died, for example: Killed by a creeper "Player blew up", death by lava: "Player tried to swim in lava"
They are meant as a humorous notification of one's death.
