i've been wanting to try a mushroom farm but it's a little more involved than farming other things just because you have to plan your lighting carefully. the wiki has all the info needed on the mushroom and the lighting pages to figure out proper light placement.
haven't done it yet tho. mushroom farming seems to be the only productive farming at the moment IMO, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the empty bowls are returned to inventory after eating a mushroom stew. not that losing a wooden bowl is anywhere near the same as losing 9 steel ingots for the three steel buckets lost when you bake a cake. that's an awful trade.
now if only the mushroom stews could stack... still a big problem with inventory space and food.
-_-. Everyone who reads this, I pray that you will remember that we are in beta 1.6.6! Did they have it then on PC? NO!? THEN THEY WON'YT HAVE IT HERE! IT'S A DAMN PORT!

Carry the mushrooms in 2 stacks, then just craft a bowl of it and eat it whenever you want. It will only use 3 spaces (brown mushroom stack, red mushroom stack, bowls.

A solution to inventory space is to carry a stack of both mushrooms with a single bowl. Now you have 64 mushroom stews that only take up 3 inventory slots. You can just craft the stew on the go with a crafting table. Hopefully, the bug fix will make it to where you don't need a crafting table for the stew because you don't in the PC.

(Ninja'd - meed96 beat me to it)
XD i was reading through that and thought "Must have not seen mine". Then i got the end and i see "Ninja'd"
I just can not get a mushroom farm to work outside of the nether.
The simplest way to do a Mushroom farm is to dig underground a bit and then put like a shack over the hole or something. The only problem is that Mobs tend to spawn and on one occasion I had 3 creepers spawn in a mushroom farm ><
for this very reason i am now going to make a mushroom house on the pc and get a smurf skin.....
Also, you can light up a mush farm with red stone torches, no mob spawns, and yet you have light to see and mushrooms growing, enjoy manipulating the system(make sure you use plenty of red stone torches)
In that case, try doing it in a cave.
