You can't craft a golden apple in 1.6.6 because you can't get an apple, but they can be found extremely rarely in chests.
Actually, in the pc version but unknown of Xbox Edition. You could find an Apple in a Chest and it was 8 Golden Blocks surrounding an Apple. http://minecraft.wikia.com/wiki/Apple

yes, there is actually a seed were you spawn by a dungeon with a golden apple in the chest, I have entered the seed and done it myself but theres no point
To clarify: I understood what padware meant in the other thread. However, I also understand that others may not have and took his statement to mean that there is absolutely no way to get Golden Apples in the current version. Thus, I posted the picture for the benefit of anyone who accepted his statement at face value.

I believe the odds of finding a golden apple in a spawner chest is 1 in 5256 in this update or something close to that so honestly don't get your hopes up of finding one. But if there was a given seed with a golden apple on then I'm sure you could find it but I'm not certain on a seed with one on. I guess searching the internet might have to be the way.

Anyways never found an apple yet but I did manage to find A LOT of cocoa beans, saddles, and a green music disc.
It's 7 in 1000 chests that have a golden apple.
