A penal system will not work because people can escape. The euro/dollar cannot work because people can counterfeit.
You see, there is always a chink in every idea meant for widespread use. However, does that mean that every single one is broken? No. There must be a vigilant authority to at least attempt to fill in the holes. The police-like faction is corrupt? Reenforce that with a well-maintained government.
If you have none of those, it is your fault. Not the currency's fault. Not the duplication glitch's fault. It is yours. /yourargumentisinvalid

Basically you make something, lets say gold, your currency. So if you do that and suddenly someone is trading full stacks of 64 gold obviously they dupped.
