I live surrounded by water on three sides and a planted forest behind me thats almost impossible to get through. Across the lake is a waterfall beside a lavafall...pretty sweet
Mine is on flat surface in he deser t and is 17x29 with three stories a basement a main floor and a upstairs plus a huge back yard 3 bedrooms upstairs one in basement and there is a pool in the back yard
I currently live at bedrock level, and have got grass to grow down, mind you that was a project and a half all by itself. From this area I built a mine cart track to the northern most part of my map where there is a large open body of water about 9 - 13 deep where I have made a 62 x 31 dry-dock to build my underwater house where I will re-flooding it as soon as it is done...smiley face...as it is almost done and ready to be re-flooded. I have a perfect spot for a 62 by however wide I decide to make it space for an underwater greenhouse. Pictures are soon to come as this truly is shaping up to be one of my finer builds, and I fancy myself a pretty good builder.
p.s. if you are going to build a dry dock to build underwater, there are no good tutorials for them, so I am thinking about making one.
I live inside my own head, arguing with my thoughts till the sun goes up and the moon comes down.
Just kidding. I explored my map pretty thoroughly, then cleared off the top of the tallest mountain for my fort/castle build. My first house was above a cliff, looking over the beach.
In my land Techno-Verse I live in a mansion with a shop below it. I also have a mine/house in Techno-Verse, it has a dungeon far below it.
In my other land Rainbow Derp I live in creative mode, I drop down in a hole that goes all the way down to bedrock. I live with a disk player, note block, a little mine, a chest, and LOTS of diamond and gold blocks. Also I have a nether portal in there. And finally, the hole I drop down in is surrounded by obsidian since the two holes/entrees is in the middle of water. (Also I have 2 blocks of TNT "Just in case")
I prepared for 1.8 by swimming to an island with grass, trees and animals.
Then I fenced in the entire perimeter and built a 7x13 two story house to live in.
I also built a 5x5 wheat farm and a 7 tree harvesting jig (lets be chop birch trees from the top easily)
It also has an air-lock type system with a pair of iron doors (only one is open at a time). It includes an Emergency purge lever to flood the chamber with lava should it be occupied with monsters.
so, once I boot up in 1,8 (haven't yet), I expect to live in the lap of luxury on my plantation with plenty of pigs and wheat to eat.
Underground, the entrance to my new base is a bud switch hooked up to a cobblestone generator so the block you mine out to open the drop door self repairs
Originally I lived in a castle at the apex of a desert, forest, and plains biome, that was also a stones throw from a large cove....
Recently however, I've moved to a new world, where I'm living in the sky over an ocean biome that borders a winter forest (that will eventually be a city)
