I was heading down to my strip mining area, and there they were, hopping around. At first I thought they here HUGE headed zombies. But then The little toggle thing told me they were slimes.
Never seen them before.
Are they rare to find?
Any good drops?
Any information would be awesome. (:Killed all three. 1 hit kills, (with iron sword) they didn't split into smaller slimes after taking damage, and no item drop.
Well, they are pretty rare in the Xbox version. In the next update they should become more common. They drop slime balls which pretty much only make sticky pistons, which will be added in the next update, as well. I haven't seen them on the console yet, so you are pretty lucky to see them.
They're rare. You can find out more about them on the wiki.
The best thing about slimes on the PC version is that they give good XP because of the way they split. They also drop slime balls which are used for sticky pistons.
.... so, basically, everything good about slimes isn't in this version of MineCraft, but good job finding them!
If i remember correctly, slimes don't split into smaller slimes or drop any items if you hit them and do more damage than they have health. so if they have lets say 3 hearts and you hit them with a sword that does 4 hearts of damage they just die and you get nothing, which is why its always best to go at slimes without any weapons, especially since in their smallest form they don't hurt you. all the slimes i've found have been really buggy.
yeah slimes are buggy, they glitch thru floors into passageways below, etc.
I was in a large cavern I excavated and as I entered I was kinda shocked to see at least 20-25 slimes of all sizes bouncing up and down everywhere. LOL Who says slimes are rare? I've got a slime problem in my world, a lot of big huge empty lighted caverns from mining and they're always spawing. My stacks of slimeballs will come in handy when we can actually use them for something... like pistons.
Oh goodness. This reminds me of the first time I found redstone. I was so excited! I have found the famous redstone in Minecraft! I greedily gathered it all up.
The excitement wore off when I found more, and more and more. I don't even mine it when I find it, because I have chests overflowing with the stuff.
The point I'm making is, once you start deep-mining, you are going to run into slimes CONSTANTLY. They can be a real pain, too. Because they spawn regardless of light sources, so you just can't stop them from spawning. And when the big ones bushwhack you, they hit you repeatedly for insane amounts of damage before you can react.
I have like 70 Slimeballs. LOL My strip mine is defiantly a slime chunk. Just take my minecart up to my house and stand in my castle for a bit, go back down and there is always atleast 2 full sized slimes. So slimeballs is an easy get for me.
I have a couple stacks of slime balls. I was clearing out an area under my base for storage and now whenever I go down there I have tons of slimes waiting for me =D.
I deal with slimes by lighting a fire on the ground between us with flint and steel. The slime will hop through it, catch fire, and split into smaller slimes. Done and done.

Deeply disappointed with this outcome. :/
