So my project over the past few gaming sessions has been to mine in a straight line from my original spawn point, collecting resources and building a rail as I go.

Today, I reached a wall of blocks that were unmineable - my pickaxe swung at the stone like it didn't recognize any block being there. I tried mining up and down, to try and get around the glitched blocks, but I just couldn't get past them.

I even went to the surface (which is an ocean) and tried to mine sand blocks under the water, but even those would not break.

Are the worlds in xbox restricted to a certain area around the spawn point? Or have I just run into a bit of glitchy bad luck?

I have the pc game already, and I was hoping to recreate certain parts of my world into my xbox world, but alas it appears I cannot.

Do you think that the minecraft world will ever be expanded? Or is the 1024x1024 restriction necessary to conserve space in the xbox game?

Nobody is really sure that I'm aware of. I hear that there is an update coming in July, so maybe they'll increase the world sizes a bit then.

World size is restricted because of splitscreen from what I've heard.

If it does get any bigger, it probably won't get much bigger.
