Ok, I'm curious to how many people out there think the game is cheating with Creeper generation.
Creepers have a lot of infurating things that set them up to be wickedly effective foes... not the least of which is their utter silence and relatively swift movement, making them perfect for ambushing you.
But there are times I am SURE there was no creeper for miles, and every inch of the place had 10 lighting or better, and one just appeared behind me when I turned to mine. Indeed, once I completed a 360 degree scan in a cavernous, single-level-floor room and one hit me out of nowhere, covering an impossible distance from the nearest dark spawn area.
I was under the impression that Creepers can't spawn by Monster Generators, only darkness, but does anyone else feel like this game is pointedly throwing you a curve by dropping a Creeper right next to you?
I was actually thinking the same thing last night, I’ve discovered a Huge cave system and have lit everything up…. I go crazy with the torches cause I’m so paranoid. Cornered myself last night to mine making sure there were no creepers and as soon as I turned to mine something….. SSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHH! BOOM! Scared the crap out of me. I’ve also turned a dark corner and have had 3 creepers come out of the darkness, that’s just wrong.
On a side note: I also hate how I always seem to press change view (LS Click) when I get scared, screws me up and can’t fight properly, hope 4J changes it to the d-pad or something.

Amen. I do the same damn thing. Half the time I end up crouching, too! Really, this needs to be fixed. Dpad is a good idea, it's not really being used right now.

HA!! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to do the "HOLY CRAP! (switched view, and now have to cycle through everything to get to FP view, as I continue to get assaulted) thing. It was completely stupid to put a POV changer **ON** the movement joystick, especially since the views flipflop the damn orientation.
Another feature I'm really jonesing for is to get a Fast Equip button that you can assign one of your hotbar items to. Nothing more irritating than slowly cycling to your sword as the beastie gets free hit after free hit on you....
Yeah... I hear you guys! I to do the moster check nothing out there then go to turn around and CREEPER! I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought the creepers were sneakier than seal team 6.

That has happened soooo many times. I always end up falling deeper into a cave or worse running toward the mobs lol
i've never had any problems with mob generation becuase i'm very used to being alert when playing on normal
Alertness is irrelevant if the game is cheating*. You can spend all your time constantly looking behind you but eventually you will focus your attention in one direction (seconds after being sure there is absolutely, positively, no creeper around and there is no place he could be hiding [ie a flat level surface for miles and in broad daylight] and he suddenly is on top of you.
To wit, I have what I think is a prime case of this. Last night a Creeper exploded next to me while I was tweaking the launch point from my railroad. This is on a flat plane at least 30 squares in diameter. Broad daylight. And most important, a lava moat ringing the island.... only ONE way in that a creeper could manage, and that's the one-square-wide bridge across.
I scanned and saw NOTHING around. And not FIVE SECONDS later, POP! SSSSSSS! I turn around to see that lovely green grimace.
Explain to me HOW this Creeper appeared. It is impossible for him, in the off chance I didn't see him (on a level plane reaching the fog of war in all directions), to close that distance in five seconds. With only ONE way to approach me, mind.
This game cheats* with Creeper placement. That's proof.
* - NOTE: When I say cheating, I mean it insofar as I understand the rules for Creeper generation: they can only form in dark-saturated areas of 7 or less. If the game simply lets them pop into existence where-ever and whenever, then my argument is invalid, but so is the "be alert" thing -- that helps but will not prevent it if they can just pop into existence.
Those bastards most certainly pop out of thin air in daylight, don't they? I didn't believe it myself, until it happened to me last night. Damn near gave me a heart attack.
POV switch should be moved to D-Pad, I fully, fully agree with this. Hopefully when sprinting is introduced, this is exactly what will happen.

Mind I realize this all takes the foolish assumption that the game is working 100% flawlessly as designed....
i am thankfull to the creeper, if he wouldnt explode while im mining in bedrock i couldnt find DIAMONDS!
Indeed, there are some times you WANT a creeper, but even in this scenario, he destroys blocks, so you may have lost 2-3 blocks of diamonds in the blast. Mind you, I guess you could argue you wouldnt have known to look there, but still.
I agree totally on both points. Creeper spawning needs to be adjusted. Way too many suprise attacks. Not so much when I'm underground, but outside building in the daylight, they sneak in and BOOM, there goes 1/3 of the structure I just built, and all the underlying foundation too. Grrrrrr!!!
And of course all this is exaccerbated by the poor placement of the POV switch. I'd probably take double the creeper spawns if they would address this 1st.

They can be. Ores have blast resistance 15. Which is half that of stone.
Yes, you are answering technically via game mechanics. I'm kind of asking from a real-world perspective (which I know is a slippery slope when we are dealing with a fantasy world).... I assume the explosions of the Creepers are gunpowder-detonation based. I'm curious if a conventional explosion of ANY magnitude can destroy diamonds as elements.

Do diamonds usually get vaporized in explosions?
