First off I love minecraft xbla, a bit of bragging rights are that I was one of the people in the live stream on xbla fans.com got a chance to talk with roger carpenter and cain141 awesome stuff, but here is the problem I think I have. There is no excuse for the king of a box/sand box create world to be limited or not have texture packs or skins or flight or even infinite building materials (create mode)
Look at the indie games on Xbox castle miner Z and castle miner etc have all of those things granted the games are well created but I would really like to see that an official xbla game with an official game developer and publisher show that they can do it to.
It's very much possible if an indie game can do it why can't minecraft Xbox live edition do it as well just goes to show you it's possible.
I know the updates will come and bug fixes etc and I'm not looking for mods but I am curious about text packs, skins for your character. I don't care that 1.7.3 is coming I'd rather have 1.8 and I really don't mind that the world is 1024x1024 all though someone has posted before that what happens when all the diamonds are gone and clay etc they have to create a new world?! That's bs when you bust your ass on that one world in my opion. 4jstudios has a great thing going for them if they do this correctly.
All in all guys and gals I hope you don't flame on me for saying such things I mean I really do love the game I to just want to see it grow into this great game on the Xbox 360
I agree, i love the game too, and as for world size, texture packs, and creative mode, we'll just have to wait and see. The new worlds will suck, but my plan is to just get the most out of my current world and then move on with a fresh start and a lot of new content ( abandoned mineshafts, clay, etc.)
What you say I totally agree with. The fact that the indie game "rip-offs" of Minecraft were able to do so much and then to see that Minecraft xbla is lacking in things like creative mode. The release of Minecraft on the xbox was a quality that I would have expected from an indie game and not an official xbla game. I do like the game and how easy it is to connect with friends, but I have to say that I have never seen a game with so many bugs and still released. I went to the bug list on these forums and read about 20 bugs before I decided to stop reading. Again I repeat this is quality I expect from an indie game, but not from an offical xbla game. Still I do like the game alot and spent a good probably 50+ hours on the game since the release.

1024X1024X64= more than 67 million blocks under the surface. There's no way your gonna run out of resources.
What the OP (and many others) seem to forget is that the game wasn't designed with the existing (PC) players in mind.
It was designed for those new to MC. (Like us "old timers" need a tutorial?)
All the PC things that we're busy wishing the xbox had.... the newbie doesn't know of or care about. They see the game completely different than we do.
They're impressed with how cool, complicated, and deep it is.
We're spoiled, not impressed, and have nothing to do but ***** that it's not the same as the PC version.
Castle Miner? Bad example.
CM came out 07/27/11, almost 11 months ago and has had 3 updates.
MC hasn't even been out a month, with 0 updates.
Don't be so impatient.
^This
Seriously CM and CMZ have been out for awhile and CMZ has received numerous updates. After 4J gets the updates rolling all of the above mentioned things will surely be included somewhere down the line...
In regards to the infinite world complaint you're forgetting the fact that MC lets you play up to 4 players on splitscreen. This is something all of the Indie game competitors chose not to include because it puts such a strain on one xbox and would force them to limit their worlds. Sure 4J could make MC worlds unlimited but splitscreen and most likely the 8 person multiplayer would be totally unplayable causing your console to crash/freeze.
While I am really looking forward to whatever update they'll bring to the xbox in July, I'm one of those "new people" success stories. I started watching minecraft videos about a month ago and got the xbox version as soon as it came out. Sure the world is small, but I went from punching trees to creating a monorail across half the map to my 4 story house and Nether portal. But, I wanted to see what else was out there so I got MC for the PC. While I still play it on Xbox, the PC version provides a glimpse into the future of what MC will be.
Point is, the xbox version IS limited, but not by so much that you can't have fun. Just be patient, and forward to the updates!
I have to agree with invincible. I also partly share his story. I watched enough videos to see everything on the pc version. I knew about everything and anything. Even though i never got the PC version i went to the Xbox version. I have to say i was impressed. They had to rewrite everything from java to the xbox code. How would one of you like translating everything on the forums to spanish? They did more then i hoped and i wasn't upset, even though i knew what i was missing. Even if everyone complains til the forums shut down it isn't gonna do a thing.
So i decided not to.

Well I'm glad you guys agree and I for one am not complaining at all just posting and discussing this topic, minecraft xbla has so much potential to crush those indie games for sure it's smooth to play I can care less about split screen, and online is pretty decent besides having to be the tennis player or the Scottish guy haha but all in all I'm patient but impatient I want the goods and I'm sure a lot of people agree with that.. Because of minecraft xbla we now know what we were missing out on all this time while people on the pc who started with version alpha and that's our fault but like I said we can now see and love the game just like the pc players have been enjoying it.
I've thought of buying the pc version but I'm not sure how I will like it I already played the 120 min demo just idk
Like I said earlier in my first post there is no way in hell that the king of box crafting cannot make it happen text packs, skin packs, maybe (MAYBE) larger maps if that's even possible lol I just want 1.8 and see how we go from there thanks guys for understanding I know some say noob and what the "op" doesn't understand bla bla but it's all good
Happy crafting guys and gals
All of the MineCraft clones are all new titles with relatively new development.
MineCraft is a 3+ year old PC game ported to the 360.
Massive difference.
If given the chance to rewrite MineCraft entirely with the Mojang team's current experience and opinions, I'm sure it would be able to blow those titles out of the water.
What the OP (and many others) seem to forget is that the game wasn't designed with the existing (PC) players in mind.

THANK YOU. As a new player it baffles me to come here and see so many people complaining about this game that only just came out. You've really touched on the issue though, all of the complaining is coming from PC players wishing that they could do all the things they can do on the PC. Give it a chance and enjoy the ride. They're different games, to say there's 'no excuse' for them not being the same makes no sense. There is an excuse - this game is new. However I see no excuse for so much complaining, is this how people play all their games?
I just want to see it grow into this great game on the Xbox 360
Then give it a chance to. The game has yet to even be updated, it's only going to get better. We have no idea what all they're adding in the long run. There's a chance everything you want will be here eventually.
However I see no excuse for so much complaining, is this how people play all their games?
Welcome to the internet. You must be new here.
Seriously, though.... I understand some of the complaints. Even new players that are experiencing MineCraft for the first time quickly become entranced by all of the long standing features of the game after being exposed through forums, the wiki, youtube, their friends, etc. There's a certain expectation a port has to live up to - ya, it's absolutely disappointing we can't play with pistons and the redstone connections are wonky. That's infuriating - *especially* to new players trying to emulate a youtube video or forum post.
On the other hand, I do somewhat agree with most of the posts here about it being a "new game." I've spent my time having a fun flashback to 1.6.6 with my friends on the Xbox that are experiencing it for the first time. I'm disappointed that a lot of them have simply stopped playing MineCraft and I know the newer features would've kept them here.
Anyway, proselytizing the game as a "new game" for "new players" on a console where.... I guess everyone thinks it's mutually exclusive to own both a PC and an Xbox? I dunno. Either way, it's exactly the same to whine about people wanting features as it is to whine about wanting features. Same thing, different ends of the spectrum.
I'm really looking forward to creative mode. If it weren't for the duping glitch I would have stopped playing. I know I've said before that I don't like the concept of glitching to get items, but I'm an Architect by trade and I just want to build! As for map size, it would be great to see infinite worlds, but I know the hardware on the Xbox's can't handle much more than what they're putting out now for the game. I know it seems like a simple sandbox game shouldn't take up so much RAM, but there's a lot more going on than the average Joe realizes. I guess I'm okay with all the issues because I don't have a higher expectation - I never played the PC version.
"more than 67 million blocks under the surface. There's no way your gonna run out of resources."
Lets do some math shall we:
Assumptions: 1 player; 1 block per 5 seconds; 67,000,000 blocks
335,000,000 seconds to mine every block
5,583,333.3_* minutes to mine every block
93055.5_* hours to mine every block
3877.3148_* days to mine every block
10.6 years to mine every block
Now if you add a friend (per the big aspect of the xbox version) cut that in half, now we're at a bit over 5 years.
Now add another and cut it into 1/3's, now your at just over 3 and a half years.
Now add another and cut it into 1/4's, now your at just over 2 and a half years
This doesn't accound for loss of blocks due to ravines and caves either. It also assumes constant mining for the time period in question. I'd have to guestimate that with between 5-10 friends, a group of xbox minecrafters could empty a world in under 5 years even on a semi-light mining schedule of gaming 2-3 hours per day. As someone with several game saves older than that time mentioned I can imagine xbox worlds starting to become relatively empty by about the 6-8th year of existence. So while it will take a decent amount of effort and time on their part they most assuradly will run out of resources LONG before they get to a point where 'techincally' all the blocks are gone.
I'm a long time PC player, playing since alpha 1.2. But my computer was never very fast, and so I was always at 5-15 fps. So when the XBOX version came out, it was a breath of fresh air, being able to play at 60 fps. =D I admit, I miss breeding, NPC villages, melon and pumpkin farms, enchanting, and brewing, but I don't constantly ***** on the forums. I think you need to get a hold on your emotions and, "man up"
I'm just going to put it out there that the updates are very slow. I mean just for pistons and shears and a few other things it takes I'll mid-end July? Seriously? Well be lucky to have 1.8 by Christmas

Wow, that was a lot of misplaced effort. Even based on those estimates, you didn't bother to get the average of blocks below or above sea level - 67M is a ceiling. Ravines aren't technically in this version, but caverns can be generated with plenty of empty space. There's also water, lava, ores and more.
Finally, you'll have to qualify "empty" a world - outside of the blocks you can delete (ores, lava, water source, etc) there are only TNT and Creepers left to cause blocks to be deleted. While you can certainly make TNT for the rest of your life to try to destroy 70% of the blocks at each explosion.... that will take much, much longer than your estimates. I guess you could throw the droppable version into lava for fun? You can also cause blocks to be generated by growing trees or generating cobblestone.
More importantly, those estimates may be accurate if you plan to build everything out of cobblestone. But 2-3 years to exhaust your supply of sand is probably not accurate at all.....
Finally, the 360 isn't going to be around in 7 years. Who knows if we'll be able to transfer save games (probably) or if XBLA content will even continue to work (probably?) or that players will keep the same gamertag and saves or.... well, that's a lot of "or".....
So that was all pointless. :\
Looked neat, though.

Well first off in my opinion Minecraft will never crush CMZ when it comes to survival mode.I know we're on the MC forums and most of the people here just hopped on the bandwagon not too long ago but realistically CMZ has better enemy AI. The only thing Minecraft really excels at are a few minor decoration options and PvP...
Also you may not care about splitscreen but you have to realize they put it in the game now and some people DO use it. Are you suggesting they do away with it now after it's been released just so you can play the game how you expect it to be played? What about all the other people that bought the game for splitscreen?

You're forgetting some resources such as Cacti, Roses, etc,,, are extremely rare compared to things like cobblestone. If you're trying to make a world full of pixel art you'll run out of resources REALLY fast without the duplication glitch.

Cacti and roses are terrible examples.
Cacti can be farmed and farmed quickly for near infinite amounts. They're terrible for pixel art since they can't be placed directly near another block.
Roses can sometimes spawn from using bone meal on grass.
