Is it just me or has nobody noticed the blatent cheating going on atop the leaderboards....
I may have skimmed the XBLA terms and regulations but I'm pretty sure cheating/hacking/modding is in there somewhere.
Does anyone else think this is lame? I mean seriously the top 30 spots roughly in every category are occupied by blatently obvious cheaters...
Idk maby i'm wrong and there are 20 players or so who have mined 65535 block of EVERY type, and traveled 2147484 km walking, falling, carting, and boating, as well as harvesting 65535 of EVERY farmable item, and Killed 65535 of every enemy in the game....
But seriously, I can't bring myself to ask any of the ????? gamertags on the list their secrect to such total ownage... (????? is the actually gamertag listed for half of these punks..)
I'm sorry if I come across as ranting, because well.... I am.
Can we rally together maby file a few complaints maby? I mean I put up with this crap on indie games but on MINECRAFT that I payed $20 for... WTF COME ONNN.....
P.S. I may have included a few instanced of sarcasm in this post... if you did not realize this u may want to read again.
Like maces006, I just refer to the friends leaderboard. I know I'll never get to the very top of the leaderboards, so I don't even try. Doesn't help that almost every arcade game suffers from some sort of hacking to have people at the top. And sometimes it's not even a hack, but a glitch with how the numbers are tallied.

i'm sorry but have u looked at the leaderboards..? warning game will probably freeze on u...
but i'm pretty sure haxinjackson didnt accidentally get max stats... (just an example)
and ya i know most of you will just shrug it off, but us players with nothing to do but strive for greatness chillin in position 31 when we could be in 5th may feel differently. (I am not in that position, but you aught to catch my drift)
No offense btw if i come off wrong, i'm just saying.... leaderboard cheating is so pointless and yet people do that to get self-satisfaction i guess...? idk why people want to put their name out there and say " Hey Look At Me I'm A Pompus Cheating Dill Weed!"
Have you people even looked at the bug/glitch list. This is one of the most OBVIOUS bugs. People aren't hacking into XBLA Minecraft just to mess with there leader boards. If the was hacking going on it would be for things like skins mods and creative made so before people go on assuming "HEY my friends are hacking the game!", take a look at the bug list. It will answer most of the problems you have encountered.
Currently 41st on the mining leader board for normal. I like taking on the hackers and seeing how far up I can get and into their territory by playing legit. I've only been on one map so far and its the one I started for my community. Dupe is banned and respect for others is a must as we work on our own projects and help with each others.
Annoys me I don't stand a chance of taking top spot but I enjoy trying to break it lol. More than welcome to come view my mines to see how much I've hammered it or catch it on stream when I'm on but only so much you can watch someone else mine

Moddifying save games isn't against the ToU of XBL.
Legally, once your save game gets transferred to your USB it is 100% your property and you can do what you want with it.
While it is on the Xbox 360, it is technically Microsoft's property because of it being copywritten.
14. Service Operation and Equipment.
You may only access the Service with an Authorized Device or by logging into your account via the World Wide Web. You agree that: (i) you are using only authorized software and hardware to access the Service; (ii) your software and hardware have not been modified in any unauthorized way (e.g., through unauthorized repairs, unauthorized upgrades, or unauthorized downloads); and (iii) we have the right to send data, applications or other content to any software or hardware that you are using to access the Service for the express purpose of detecting an unauthorized modification. You must not attempt to disassemble, decompile, create derivative works of, reverse engineer, modify, further sublicense, distribute, or use for other purposes the Service, any game, application, or other content available or accessible through the Service, or any hardware associated with the Service or with an Authorized Device. If you do so, we may cancel your account and your ability to access the Service, and pursue other legal remedies. We may take any legal action we deems appropriate against users who violate our systems or network security, this contract or any additional terms incorporated or referenced in this contract. Such users may also incur criminal or civil liability.
We reserve complete and sole discretion with respect to the operation of the Service. We may, among other things: (i) restrict or limit access to the Service; (ii) retrieve information from the Authorized Device and any connected peripheral device used to log onto the Service as necessary to operate and protect the security of the Service, and to enforce this contract; and (iii) upgrade, modify, withdraw, suspend, or discontinue any functionality or feature of the Service, any game or other content available or accessible through the Service, or any hardware or software associated with the Service or with an Authorized Device, from time to time without notice. We may do so by the automatic download of related software directly to your Authorized Device, including software that prevents you from accessing the Service, playing pirated games, or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices.
That is basically saying you can only access Xbox Live with a non-modified Xbox 360 console and that you should in no way attempt to decompile the software that "runs" the Xbox 360 or modify the Xbox 360's hardware.
Save game are no where in the ToU for Xbox Live.
Do you remember the lawsuit Apple and some people who jailbroke their iPhones? The jailbreakers won and it was proven that since they bought the product they can do whatever they want with it. Same reasoning with the Xbox 360.
Now leaderboards are a bit touchy. There is a tool (NOT SAYING WHAT IT IS) out there that modifies the part of the minecraft save (not the game or console for any of you that are ignorant) that contains Leaderboards (because for some idiotic reason that was put in the save and not on the server).
Hazali's sticky contains errors. I did message Hazali after the sticky was made, but the errors are still present. Modifying (not hacked, the correct term is modded as in modified) a save game is not agasint the Terms of Use of Xbox Live, now that isn't to say it isn't against 4J's own site rules.
If you want some evidence that it isn't against the ToU (other than actually reading the ToU) there is Bioware. To my knowledge Bioware set the precedent when it came to modding saves on the Xbox 360. During the time that Dragon Age 2 was released, I created a topic on how to mod that game for both Xbox 360 and PC and do you know what happened next? The topic, which contained links and details for what is required to mod a gamesave on the Xbox 360 version of DA2, was sticked by one of the Bioware developers. Bioware, a company that has been creating games for the Xbox 360 ever since it was created stickied a topic detailing how to mod Dragon Age 2 for the Xbox 360. That topic is still there to this day.
But, back to the original subject of this topic; modding leaderboards shouldn't matter (I do think that anyone that does it, or even cares about leaderboards for that matter, is an idiot). There are 3 groups of people.
1. Modders: Modify gamesaves to add content and to enrich the game so they have a more enjoyable time. I would like to think of myself in that category.
2. Cheaters: People who take modifying game save to affect other people's games in a negative way. These people deserve to be banned as all they do is instill a stereotype that anyone who mods is a bad person.
3. Hackers: Worst of the worst. Ocassionaly use software to gain access to other people's accounts. These people should be banned and arrested for Theft of Property and Credit Card Fraud (in the case that they do purchase something on someone else's account without their permission)

There it is. Hope I gave some insight into how things work and if it was too long so you didn't read then get a higher education or at least take ridalin.
Moddifying save games isn't against the ToU of XBL.
I know this is only a minor piece of it but this is the only piece that actually irks me, modding of any form on a console game, doesnt matter if its a save or not, if it messes with an online game it breaks the law and therefore can get you equivalent jail time to man slaughter.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Jyggalag's forces are gathering in the Fringe...And I HATE IT when people gather forces in my Fringe!
There are no incorrections in the sticky. We have confirmation from Microsoft themselves that it is indeed a violation of the ToU.
Microsoft can say it is wrong, but without it being in the contract it would just be considered verbal.
It would be like signing a paper but then the person who created it says "Oh, I almost forgot; you can't do that either."
The contract that you signed in no way covered what was told to you after you signed, but you are still supposed to follow it.
In the end, that is debatable depending on the person you are talking to.

it is against the rules of Xbox Live, and any modifying of content sees a perma / console ban. There's no argument there. it's written in the terms and rules, and modifying is stated as one of the things that will earn a console ban in the console bans section on the xbox site. There is also a report tool to report people for modifying / altering /tampering games and content from the xbox itself. So Stop telling people it's fine to do it,.
Even using cheats and exploits is reportable in the report tools, so what makes you really believe that game save modding is completely fine?. It's not and that's all there is to it.

Console tampering: Physically opening the Xbox and modifying it to play illegitimate software.
Editing a save game doesn't require modifications to a console
----
CoC from Xbox.com
Don't cheat in a game unless cheats have been deliberately enabled.
Don't modify or hack game content to create cheats.
Don’t make unauthorized modifications to your account profile or its contents.
Very vague and barely covers anything.
What constitutes cheating? Would that be like gaining an advantage over others in a game? (these people deserve to banned)
Game content also is vague. Does it mean the actual game or save? They say nothing of save modifications.
Now that is specific in saying to not modify a profile or the profile's contents. They are specific there but nowhere else.
It wouldn't hold up anywhere with the generalizations in that CoC.
I'd like to know what will happen to the ???????????????? accounts. My addiction for this game runs higher than any other lol I've smashed it but it's taken 2 days to move from 41st to 38th (I'm on a holiday from work BTW not a jobless bum) I'd like to know what will happen to the people who have apparently mined 65535 clay and obsidian and the ????????????? accounts. Will they be removed or just left at the top forever ?
People who may wonder why I'm trying to go up the leaderboards is just for something to do and to track my progress. Don't get me wrong it would be nice to top the boards even for 5 minutes but I know how much work I've had to put in for it + have been building a world at the same time. Hate the fact lazy cheaters are above me.
I don't mind people who mod or glitch a game to be honest its going to get done but only as long as its a private game and does not affect other peoples games/performances.
Happy with a top 40 place in a world of cheaters lol
