Any ideas on what I should do for a defense systems? I am planning on making a castle, with the outer wall made of obsidian, and a 4-5 block space between the outer and the inner wall that will be filled with lava to prevent anybody from getting through, and also I am going to do the same basic thing for the flooring to prevent people from tunneling under, but I thought of making it more awesome by adding some sort of redstone based defense system. (oh and btw I am going to use the duping glitch for obsidian for obvious reasons).
For a Mob proof house, make a house thats floating above a water source (Preferably bigger than the house) and make a hole in the floor and put water there so to get from your house all you do is swim up and down water

but I also wanted it safe from troll friends and griefers whenever I wanted to show of my server, like to protect my diamonds and valuables, etc.
4 block thick obsidian wall, With all the blocks in the third row where the ground was replaced with lava (make the lava go deep underground for tunnelers). Anybody trying to mine in will notice there is apparently no lava defence, and mine, only to be burning in lava. Outside, have pressure-plate activated dispenser turrets, and battlements around your wall to protect you from arrows when fighting enemies with bows. Have an iron front door with two levels (two sets of doors) and a place to pour lava onto the enemy that breaks the first iron doors. The second level of doors should be piston-doors with a secret button to activate them (in a dark corner). Have a waterfall flowing outside of your wall and into one-block deep holes in the ground (against TNT cannons and creepers). Inside your base, you can do whatever you want without fear of attack, although making a mine will allow greifers to find your base through a cave.

Mob-proof: Yes.
Defence against players: Definetly no.
if ur playing on peaceful make a house in the nether with valuables inside
People could simply go to the nether and simply walk into your house. How is a 'house' going to stop a greifer? Even if it is in the nether, how does that stop anyone? And, what muliplayer server is on peaceful?

Yes. Yes I do.
I've planned a massive defense system, but it's kind of useless for defense against players. It's more for looks. The plan is a huge dispenser wall, hidden behind a tall stone wall, broken into sections. At the corners, there are fully aimable TNT cannons. All of this is wired into a massive central control system in a tall tower in the centre of the village. With a simple button press, a T-Flip Flop is activated, sparking an infinite loop, causing a huge amount of arrows to fire out of the selected quadrant. Press the button again, the system is deactivated. The only parts that would need reloading each time are the TNT cannons. Pretty useless for attacks from below, as well as above, but it looks cool.
Build your obsidian house with an opening before the door.. pour lava on top your house so it looks like a big block of lava... use ender pearls to teleport to the opening on the other side of the lava and to get in and out of your house.
Note: with lava on the roof like I have here you will see the drips in your house. Suggest going an extra block on top to prevent this from happening.

Depends on what you are defending against: mobs or encroaching players.
For mobs, it's not complicated. Just build a chasm around your castle. Voila. Easy and infallible way of keeping non-Endermans away, with a nice little bonus of collecting swag at the bottom.
How can you do that? Keep in mind, this is NOT for admins.
Maybe there is a specific block to place the lever on?
And people tunnel under, and sabotge the cannon.
The back button. Brings up a list of people that are currently in the server. select person and that should bring up another list of check boxes. Among them should be the options to cause them the inability to do certain things. Of course you could always have "trust players" turned off before loading the map. Either way that is how you do that.

You really only have two options.
Option 1: hide your stuff right under their noses. Let them in the house just hide the stuff in the walls, floors, ceilings. People are less likely to find stuff if you put it out in the open. They will be more likely to dig under the house looking for a vault or hidden room. Not a well placed saferoom in the rooms of the house. Don't forget to turn off autosave
Option 2: Load up the world in creative. Build a vault out of bedrock and make an obsidian door. Just hide the switch or take it off the wall till you want in. Then reload in survival.
There isn't really anyother way to protect your buildings. There will always be people that are determined enough to get in so you will have to be keeping an eye on them or, just don't let them in (look at that a 3rd option guess there was three)
I had a thought like that, but decided against criticizing duplication....
I didn't think I was criticizing duplication - just suggesting that giving others the valuables to promote goodwill is also a strategic defense option. It has been used in society for millenia.
Since the OP has stated that he is willing to dupe to obtain obsidian, he should have no objection to duping to obtain diamonds. Since the sort of player he's preparing to protect himself from are basically thieves, they really shouldn't care too much either that the diamonds they would be receiving as gifts would be "ill-gotten."
True - The same could be done without duping by going into creative mode or allowing all newcomers to the world a few minutes in creative mode to select their own tools and supplies. However, I presume the reason why he's not prepared to go into creative to get obsidian is that he wants to maintain the illusion of the world being a survival one and perhaps to preserve access to the leaderboards and achievements.
I'd just make floors and floors of the castle wall. Every other floor or so you can make holes every other block. In those holes you can put dispensers filled with Arrows. You can hook 1 Pressure Plate up to it and lead multiple paths of Redstone to all of the dispenser. (Optional) You can make a wall of lava to make the Arrows catch fire and do more damage. You COULD also make a secret entrance if you want, I don't recommend it. What I usually do for these types of worlds is to put an Iron Golem in the middle, caged or not, he is still dangerous. Plus, you shouldn't make ANYTHING out of Wood, Wool, Sand, Gravel, or Dirt. The best items to use are Obsidian, Cobblestone, and Bedrock. If you are on PC you can add a Trap Chest, with TNT behind it (Obsidian will not get blown by TNT).

Mine in, scoop up lava?
People could dig in, and sometimes randomly fall in.
Mob-proof: Yes.
Defence against players: Definetly no.
People could (accidentaily) mine in, or just find the enterance.

Yes. Yes I do.
Someone will always break in. It's like making a redstone entrance... only one person just clicks a lever and gets in.
Note: with lava on the roof like I have here you will see the drips in your house. Suggest going an extra block on top to prevent this from happening.
No more need for piling Obsidian....

Why not just dupe the diamonds and pass them out to everyone like candy instead? (Call it a politcal solution; i.e. buy goodwill.)
