I believe the answer is "No." Once a world has been generated, new blocks will not spawn without starting another world. The other fixes/additions (mobs, better lighting, pistons, etc.) will apply however.

god dam it lol, then i will need to stop making my castle
I'm wondering if clay will show up in areas that haven't been rendered yet... since chunks only render when you get close to them.
I swear I remember seeing a post from 4JStu saying that ungenerated areas of the map would be fixed after the update, in other words what hiram said. I'll try to see if I can find that post.

That would be kewl... I've got a good one started with about 80% of the map left unrendered just for this purpose.
If that will take care of the clay thing in the bug fix, and 1.7.3 in July just adds pistons & shears & such, then I won't need to start a new world until the Adventure update, which I don't expect to see until Christmas (knowing Micro$oft). I can live wit dat.
I'm sorry to be the one to tell you, but the whole world is created the first time you enter; the ingame map only updates when you hold at it.. and then only the area you are in or travelling though..
Bummer. Oh well, I'll just look at the current version as a "test bed"... now I'm not so concerned about it being perfect. Plus, I've gotta experiment with ways to reintroduce the open sea without leaving gaping holes in the water source blocks.
so basicly you are screwed and all you can do is hope they increase the world size
Or you could just start a new world because you are going to have to if you want clay and new terrain. I've always found that as half the fun of Minecraft. Since very world is different, I never have a problem starting over.
