Never heard any caves noises either. I think it has something to do with multiplayer, as cave sounds never played in SMP until the Anvil format came. Anvil made it so that light became calculated differently, allowing cave noises in SMP. Since the Xbox version is technically a server, and does not calculate light like anvil does, the same bug applies. That's my theory.
EDIT: Looking back at the snapshot notes that had Anvil, this is what fixed it I believe:
Multi-player light calculations do no longer cause affected blocks to be transmitted to the clients, instead the clients will recalculate the light on their own
You know, I was thinking about this recently. When I first started playing I heard a lot of thunder and saw a lot of lightning (my tower is built right on the edge of a forest/winter biome). But around the time I was halfway through building the tower, I've seen no lightning or heard any thunder...at all. It was like it all just stopped.
Fairly sure I've heard Thunder plenty of times as it scares the crap out of me.
Cave Ambience I'll look into.

Yeah, I guess it's just weird. I've sat and watched lightning but have heard no thunder.
And I'm pretty sure the cave ambience problem has to do with the lighting code. Which was fixed on the PC when the map layout was changed to Anvil.

I have not heard any Cave Ambience yet, Cave's are creepy enough as is but adding Ambience is a MUST..... 4J Please Fix.... And thanks for a great game.
I heard thunder before. once. and I play ALOT. sense its so rare, I actually remember where I was, and what I was doing. hahah
Im sure it wasnt TNT as well, as I never make it. (I have no use for it.)
Stil havn't heard any Thunder or Cave ambience in the xbox version. Started up the PC version last night and heard a TON of cave ambience within the first 30 minutes.
4J, are you fixing this in the 1.7 update? Pretty Please!!!!
Just the other day I saw lighting but then I wondered why there wasn't any thunder. I did hear a big type of explosion. But thats just probably the lighting hitting something. I would love to hear the thunder haha.

I've heard thunder I believe but it's apparently rare as I get a lot of rain.
Thanks Steve!
I play on offline mode 80% of the time.

Buckethead is the best guitarist ever. \m/
cave sounds scares me bc it reminds me of hero*****. you should not think about adding it in 1.7.3 since it just helps mineshafts
