I have been in numerous thunderstorms, seen countless flashes of lightning, and still have not heard thunder in Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition. (Thunder is not to be mistaken for the TNT explosion noise you hear when close to a lightning strike)
For anyone wondering what I'm talking about, a thunderstorm in Minecraft is when it starts raining and lightning occurs everywhere it's raining. Like seen below in the PC version...
I'm not sure if it's just me, but I haven't heard any thunder at all in Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition. Has anyone heard thunder in their games?
Another good point brought up by Scottster5945941980 in the thread is the lack of cave ambience noises.
These let you know when you are within 10-20 blocks of a dark cave but they seem to be lacking from the Xbox version as well. I know for a fact they should be there because they were added all the way back in Alpha of the PC Minecraft. Watch below to hear what they sound like...

I believe I have found an answer as to why there are no cave noises in the Xbox Minecraft. So, on the PC, cave ambience didn't work in multiplayer until very recently (which I had forgotten until oCrapaCreeper mentioned it). This may still be the problem now, even when in offline mode. Minecraft on the Xbox runs the "client" on one processor and the "server" on a seperate process according to 4J. So, even in offline mode, the game might still be technically running in a semi-multiplayer mode if the world is still considered a server. That would mean no cave ambience at all.
I haven't and I'm glad you brought it up because I was wondering about this. One of the loading screen tips suggests that building with wool is dangerous because of thunder. I wasn't sure if this was one of those things that didn't apply to the current version of the game or not. I was kind of assuming that maybe it just happened and I wouldn't see it's effects unless I had a wool construction in open air. I'm interested to see what the deal is on this because as I said I too have yet to see lightning/hear thunder in my game.
You gotta remember that some worlds have little or no rain/thunder/lightning. While others have rain/thunder/lightning all the time.
It has rained about 6-9 times on my world and two of them have been lightning/THUNDER storms.
So i can safely say, yes, there is thunder and lightning on XBMC.
Hope this helped, meed.

Oh no, I've had plenty of thunderstorms in my game. I've seen lightning hundreds of times. But I have never heard thunder. I'm just wondering if it's something they cut out or reduced to help the game run better or something.
A full game of people, 8 players, have sat and watch thunderstorms from different areas in many different maps and none of us have heard thunder when we see lightning.

Now that you mention it...I'm not sure if i only had lightning...i think i had thunder...not sure...but I'm pretty sure.
I heard mine from inside one of my buildings and since it was night I stayed put... I didn't see lightning, but I did hear thunder several times that one night.

I just wonder if 4J has changed something because on the PC vesion, every single time lightning flashes, it makes the thunder sound regardless of where you are.
My game just doesn't seem to be making thunder at all. Oh well.
I heard it once when I was really close to a bolt. It is kinda like the way TNT is, you only hear it when you are right next to it. Hope it gets fixed, the beauty of lightning storms are not as cool without thunder. D:

That isn't thunder. That is the sound of the lightning hitting the ground, which causes an explosion sound.
Actually...reading through this thread I feel like a complete idiot because I'm sure I've heard thunder. Not recently but I do recall digging through a mountain and only knowing it was raining outside because I kept hearing it. My first post can be ignored haha. *facepalm*
Actually, now that you mention it, I've been playing the game since release and haven't heard a single cave ambience noise
I think I might edit that into the post as well..
I'd appreciate it if you did. I've been mentioning it since release but not much people have been acknowledging it. It's not even in the list of bugs yet in the sticky(despite mentioning it there several times as well). Thanks.

Done. I've redone the entire thread to be about both of the missing noises.

Oh right then, I'm with you on the "never heard thunder" list.
Agreed, I would like to know when I'm getting. Close to a cave. I guess the constant moans and groans will do for now
I think I might edit that into the post as well..
