I know we're all pissed split screen does not work in normal TV's. But my question is, are they ever going to fix that issue? Do they care about it at all? Will they fix it in the 1.7 update? I mean, how hard can it be to program?
I was under the impression it was an issue with rendering at a much lower density - even if it did work, I doubt you could actually tell what you were looking at.
No it's not possible and personally I don't think it's fair to SDTV owners. Splitscreen is one of the reasons we can't have bigger worlds and such so I don't understand why they implemented it in the first place.
SDTV users have had 4 years to change to hd as even the telivision broadcasts have stopped for them. Every thing is digital now guys so split screen for non hd users is a no go. The update and fix for this would take up a upload slot from Microsoft that they got so many for free. For the SDTV users you can use pc monitors for hd on the xbox all you need is the vga cable.
I am not spending 300 dollars just so I can play split screen. My SDTV still works fine. I'll get a new one when it stops working.
4J has said numerous times that they have considered it, so it's pretty foolish to say it's impossible and/or will never happen. They just have to throw ideas around and find a way to make it work. I've suggested some sort of zoom function that is controlled by the left and right triggers, or simply making the inventory bigger as it doesn't even take up the whole screen ATM.
Not possible in it's current state, yes, but with some work it could happen. It's far from impossible.
I can't imagine playing xbox games in SD. Seriously, you can get a solid 22" HDTV for less than the cost of a 360. If you're playing current-gen console games on an SDTV, your priorities were backward. (In the US, at least. Idk about the ubiquity of HD sets internationally.)

I realize this post comes two years after the original question, but I was able to get Minecraft for Xbox 360 to play splitscreen through my SD television using these two components totaling about $25:
Plug the HD plug into the Xbox, and the audio into the TV. Plug the VGA end of the HD-VGA cable into the VGA-to-RCA converter, connect the Xbox USB port to the 5V power input on the VGA-to-RCA converter, plug the RCA video output into the TV. This tricks Xbox into thinking it's plugged into a VGA monitor, and allows you to use splitscreen mode. The resolution is still readable on a 21" SD TV, and $25 is cheaper than an HD TV set.
I think it's funny that the OP, even 2 yrs ago, called a SD tv a "normal" tv.
I'd bet that the vast majority complaining about no split-screen on SD tv's back then have a HD tv now. A lot happens in 2 years.
You don't buy a HD tv just to play MC split-screen. You buy one because it makes everything look better. We have bad weather once in a while and the satellite goes out. We then switch to our rabbit ears, but trying to watch something in SD actually hurts the eyes. It's worse than eating leftovers.
Congrats that you 'fooled' your xbox, on the cheap no less.
But an old computer term comes to mind: GIGO.
"Garbage In, Garbage Out".
No, its not possible or they would have done it for the release.
Just try 2 player split screen on a HDtv in 720p, even at that size, the icons in your inventory are so tiny and hard to read easily. in SD it would be far worse and totally unplayable.
I agree with Figroll. The rendering is jsut too detailed for SD screen resolution. The difference between HD 1080p and HD 720p is just terrible.

I mean hey, I can do it with my xna game, what is stopping them from doing it with minecraft? It would solve most issues with not seeing things.
Minecraft makes you lose weight if you post in forums and literally shake with anger when someone posts something stupid.
