As many of you know, the Nether is just a bug-fest right now. Freezing, glitching, Ghast Fireballs jumping around...all kinds of issues. But you don't have to avoid it altogether. Instead, follow a few simple rules before heading through the portal and you should be fine.
This is mainly meant to be a list for new users to help avoid the issues we've been experiencing...
1. Take ONLY what you need into the Nether, and NEVER take anything valuable. I actually keep a chest right next to Portal in the Overworld to "empty my pockets" before entering the Nether. That way, if you freeze, get killed, or get stuck all of you important items are safe. Diamond Pickaxes don't exactly grow on trees.
2. DO take Flint and Steel with you. This can be a lifesaver if you accidentally save in the Nether and then get stuck freezing when you try to leave. I'll explain later.
4. SAVE YOUR GAME IN THE OVERWORLD before entering the Nether. This seems like a no-brainer, but can be easy to forget if you're in the middle of a building project.
5. DO NOT SAVE YOUR GAME IN THE NETHER. This is a confirmed glitch that can cause freezing when trying to go back to the Overworld.
6. If you DO save in the Nether, and then your Xbox repeatedly freezes/locks up when trying to return through the Portal, HERE IS THE WORKAROUND:
-Near your Portal, take the Flint and steel and set a block of Netherrack on fire. Stand on the block and commit suicide (burn until your character dies). Do NOT just jump into lava or intentionally get hit by Ghast fireballs as this can cause you to lose the items you're carrying in various ways.
-You will respawn in the Overworld. Go back through your Portal to the Nether.
-Once back in the Nether, go back to where you committed suicide, put the fire on the Netherrack out, and collect your items.
-Return through your portal to the Overworld. You should now be home free!
I just hope this helps some people out of the tight spot I found myself in yesterday. I was stuck in the Nether with no way out, and had some valuable items on me. Thanks to these workarounds, I only ended up losing a few torches.
Good list, especially for noobs and maybe not for vets. You should change the title to "tips" though
Lol...agreed. If I could change the title I would. I was just hoping that someone out there would benefit from this. It almost killed my game...Well, at least until July.
any tips for the game locking up when returning to the overworld? I can go into the Nether ok and be in there for however long I want but (and it doesn't happen everytime but most times) when I step into the portal and it starts teleporting me back to the overworld it will lock the game and I have to shut off my system and restart.
