"Just a word of warning folks. Learn to tune out the crickets chirping. If you don't, it will drive you totally, raving bats**t." -- Mike J. Nelson, commenting on the original "Night of the Living Dead."
Wolves are a handy little personal army to have, but I've stopped using them because I'm tired of the barking sound effect. Yes, nice ambiance, but I don't need to hear it every 3 seconds. Call me fussy.
And recently I made it to the Netherworld. It was an experience.... I mean other than Ghasts bombing me out of existence. But hey, I got some Netherrack (sp), and as it is always aflame when lit, it seemed the perfect ecourtrements for my castle towers.
The castle does look cool, but the crackling is as frequent as the wolves. Plus, when I'm near my Portal (in my workshop), I am treated to the arcane whisperings of the portal. Spooky. At least it was the first dozen times. At time #3,000, it gets really annoying.
But then, I'm easily perturbed. I turned off the music because its so bloody repetitive... maybe it's just me, but those four chimes sound like "Home for Easter! Home for Easter!" (Yes, and now YOU are going to hear that forever. I don't see why I have to suffer alone)
Anyway, let me get to the point of this whine-a-thon. I can't turn off the sound effects because of Creepers... the sputtering sizzle is the warning for you to get out of the way, pronto (I know they are stealthy but I could swear there are times the game just drops one next to me in broad daylight). Is there any other alternative, other than "take the noisy things down" or "learn to live with it?"
100% agreed. i found a wolf and it was okay for a while, but got annoying after about an hour. at some point i ended up with 6 wolves and ended up killing all of them because they were unbearable, i had to rebuild my nether portal a decent distance from my home because of the sound and i've had the music turned off with music from a flash drive playing instead since the day after it was released. I even agree with the creepers, I've had quite a few times now where a creeper comes OUT OF NOWHERE in the middle of the freaking day and F me pretty good and it's basically like da fuq, game? seriously? I even look around after this happens for some darkish/unlit place something might've been able to spawn in and haven't found anything even once.

Granted, the Creepers are completely silent (until they start to sizzle) and they move quickly, but there are times I'm absolutely sure the game was cheating. For instance, I had a completely open field, 30 blocks radius, at least. With a small 2-deep valley in there. Middle of the day. I dropped down in there to pick something up (first doing a 360 scan JUST to check for the damn creepers), and a second later I hear the hiss, and turn to see one on top of me.
