I don't know if it is different for each world but I think worlds are only 984x984 blocks.
Try it yourself, go to the corner of your world and take 36 Stacks of 64 and 6 Stacks of 48 of whatever block except sand/gravel with you and start from one corner going vertical or horizontal and once you finish placing 12 stacks of 64 and 2 stacks of 48 you should be at another corner repeat this 3 more times and you should of gone around your world from corner to corner.
Note: You will probably end up with 4 extra blocks because you can't overlap extra pieces.
Did you actually go all the way to the edges of the map? It's almost always out in the ocean.
I mine right up to the map edge down at bedrock level. There's a row of blocks that can be pickaxed away, but you can't place anything in that block. I'm mining my way along this edge for the entire bottom of the map but it's taking me a while due to all the lava lakes which I clear out with gravel and scoop it all back up. When I get the entire passage finished I'll count how many blocks long it is.
Yeah, I want to get a full railway loop all the way around the map and then ride in 4 km circles.
There's lava beyond the edge in some spots, I'm walling those areas off with glass blocks, it's looking really cool!

I had a little trouble understanding what you are trying to say but I think you mean that there is like a 1 block distance from where the edge of the map is to where you can actually place blocks
Due to technical limitations of the Xbox 360 makes infinite worlds highly improbable.
If the way the game loads areas is altered and optimize it may change in the future, but not currently.
The Xbox 360 has only about 512mb of RAM and most computers now have at least 4gb.
The RAM isn't split like the PS3's (which shows why that was a bad idea with games like Skyrim) but the 512mb is for both the GPU and CPU and it would basically overload the processor especially with multiple people unless the way the world loads was changed.
The world is actually around 860x860. Can't remember the exact number, but there was a topic about it on gamefaqs awhile ago where some people counted.
If you look at a 360 map, they don't go all the way to the edge. There's a fairly thick border around it unlike the PC version, so it's not even close to 1024x1024. It's fairly easy to notice(the faded part on the outside of the 360 map even shows where the pc map extends to).
As you can see, the 360 world being 1024x1024 is a common misconception.
those games are nowhere near as demanding as minecraft. Don't you think 4J would have implemented infinite woulds if they knew it was possible without the game lagging like madness
How exactly are they "not as demanding"? Both games render the game in chunks but the other games have to remember a lot more data compared to Minecraft. If you walk out 10 million squares and delete a block out in the middle of nowhere it's got to remember it. So really this argument isn't valid at all...
The main reason they don't do it is splitscreen. If they take that away it might be possible but then we'll have people complaining about that next...
I see a lot of people saying what you are saying, however I know of a little game called Castle Miner which supposedly generates infinite worlds. I have tried it, walked almost an an hour placing down lanterns just to see if I would end up where I started. Its a rubbish game but if an Indie marketplace game can do it, why cant Minecraft?
The engine was ported from PC to 360. Notch never had it to code it for consoles buecause I don't think he ever thought it would have been on the 360 so 4J didn't modify the engine to an extent to allow infinite worlds.
I did play Castle Miner Z but I would bet that the game was built with infinite worlds in mind from the ground up. It most likely "de-loads" areas that the player isn't looking at while still saving what is placed.
I do think it can be done with Minecraft on the 360, but not with the way the engine is currently coded.

Yeah when xbox was made it should have had 2 Gb but it is showing its age as is the PS3 the akin was already old at launch. But when xbox 720 comes out it will run a win 8 os or win 9 ( doubt it) and they will need 2 Gb ram min just to run. I wish that there would be 8 Gb. Ram in 720 but only time will tell.
The map is not 1024x1024 that would indicate its flat, it's actually 1000x1000x128, that's 128.000.000 blocks total, but about half of that will be solid blocks, (not air) so that would be 64.000.000 blocks per world.
So 64.000.000 blocks is a lot the map isn't small, it takes 8:30 mins to walk from one side to the other if you traveled at 2 blocks a second on a flat world, which doesn't happen

No because I made a border around my whole map and figured out the dimensions

You miscounted. It's 862x862. I've seen about 5-6 people confirm this. You most likely counted two extra stacks. Looking at a 360 map its common sense that it's not even close to what you counted. You claim it's 984, which would be 96% of the PCs map size. Looking at a picture, the edges on the left and right comprise of a lot more than 4% of the width(I'd wager around 15-20%, but I don't have a ruler on me to measure). Not saying you're wrong, but you're the first person that I've seen that has counted the dimensions and not got 862 and the border would have to be a lot smaller for the actual map width to be only 38 blocks less than the PC. Until I see more people with the same results, I don't think it's 986. Look at both edges on either side and HONESTLY tell me that looks like 4% of the width to you.

Notch doesn't work at Mojang (anymore) or 4J Studios.
Mojang didn't make Minecraft: Xbox.
4J Studios might modify the engine in a later patch.
