Hello to all, I have a request that will benefit every single PLASMA TV owner, and hopefully is something that is easy to implement.
The issue here is that minecraft has alot of static images on screen such as the health meter, and the entire bottom item box. After a few hours of play, this causes the plasma TV to develop "ghost images" or "burn in" (as some may call it) of these static images on to the tv.
Can something please be done to avoid this issue? For example, skyrim allows the player to control the opacity of their static HUD via the options menu, thus making it impossible for the static images to burn on to the screen. That is just one idea.
It may not seem like such a big issue, but im sure anyone who's spent a butt-load of money on a plasma TV is aware of this whole "burn in" issue. Now Im well aware that Plasma TV's nowadays are less prone to this, but its no doubt still an issue, especially in this case, since minecraft has these images on screen nearly all the time. Its even worse when the contrast between the static images and the backround is very high: For example: the bright red hearts with the black backdrop at night time is any plasma's owners nightmare.
I know its a long shot asking for a fix to this here, but i definaltly believe its worth while for the developers to invest some time to help avoid this issue. Thanks a bunch for reading.

Do you ever open up your inventory or your crafting menu? How does it still cause burn in when every couple of minutes you go into your inventory or craft something and it pretty much takes away the overlay? Thats the thing noone ever explains when they post these topics. I'm assuming it still causes burn in even when going into your inventory/crafting every 2 minutes and if it does then your TV is bad and you need a better one. And if you hardly ever go into your inventory/craft then just every couple of minutes pull up your inventory/crafting menu. Not that hard. I'm sick of seeing these ****ing posts. They are getting as bad as the splitscreen ones.

I can't figure out how to do the achievement get thing, so.... yeah
Easy fix: Sell your TV and get an LED/LCD. Plasmas are not for gaming.
Thanks for your productive response! Im not sure if you know anything on this topic, but both plasma's and LCD's have incredibly high refresh rates, making them both ideal choices for gaming So you must have absolutly no idea what your talking about.

No need to get angry, you obviosly dont have a plasma TV so it doesnt concern you,and If you did you'd probobly notice this issue and it would bug you, hence why it may be comming up on the forums so often. So take a deep breath and relax! It has nothing to do with the TV being bad, or old or whatever you may think. The health and items do infact ghost onto the screen after many hours of play despite the inventory menu popping up for a few brief seconds every now and then, so please get off my ass for trying to suggest a fix to something that apparantly concerns many people.
You said that know one ever explains why these things happen. The fact is that it does happen, and if you want to know why then google it.

I don't think he was necessarily referring to refresh rates. Yes, they both have high refresh rates, but the technology behind how the images are displayed is what's key. Plasma TVs use phosphors (similar to old CRT units) and when they are unevenly illuminated for long periods of time they can leave behind a ghost image (burn-in). LCDs and LED backlit TVs don't tend to have this issue as the technology used in those TVs is different.
Playing even call of duty MW3, gears of war 3, or battlefield 3 will cause it. Those are 3 popular new games that have the same complaints from many users. I agree it would be nice for 4J to bring in some optional features that can help reduce the risk of it, but also people need to accept responsible when using Plasma TV's to game, because it has been a well known issue for a long time .
Pretty much any game with a HUD will have the potential for burn-in.
For example, LED. I have a HD LED tv that I have used for gaming for years now. It is 1080p, looks great, cost less than $170, and has never had screen burn once.
Where did you find a HD LED TV for $170?

Yeah he could have a plasma older than 2 years old the 2011 and 2012 model plasma may not have that issue. But I work at a Tv station we have about 30 screens in this room. None repeat none have ever been plasma
You can get a 32 for under 400 now I know cause my 42 died 3 weeks ago it was not even 3 years old.
I've currently got a 32 LCD. If I end up getting another TV, it will most likely be bigger. Unfortunately, my apartment can't really fit a bigger TV right now so I'll have to wait a while. I'm really hoping to get a 47-55 inch LED eventually.

First turn your gamma down to about 60-75ish. You can also turn your TV brightness and cell light down a little. My plasma also has a pixel shift option which will shift the whole screen around by 1-4 pixels, or a scrolling black to white bar, let that scroll for 10-15 minutes and most of it will be gone. It also helps if you take a break every 45-60 minutes and run the scrolling bar.
as for the price thing, i got my TV from walmart . it has deals. if you're shopping in the wrong places you will find rip off prices, you must look in the supermarkets and such for the decent prices. don't let yourself get ripped off either. trust me, stick with walmart and look out for the offers and deals, you will find some really good LED/LCD HD Tvs there like i did
I don't generally shop at Walmart. Not that I have anything against it; it is just that I live in NYC and the nearest Walmart is quite a hike. I can usually find comparable prices on Amazon and I accrue points on amazon purchases. If I'm going to have to wait for shipping, I may as well get points for free stuff in the process.
For electronics, I like New Egg, Amazon, and Costco.

And please don't bother with the comments about plasma tv's and video games. I've had my big screen HD for over six years, long before I bought an xbox.
What we need is for 4J to modify the settings so that we can either dim down the menu bar at the bottom, or turn it on/off somehow (like having it fade away until we press a right or left button, the buttons that scroll thru the on-hand items).
Pretty simple really, to me. And logical. I'm lucky, even with an older plasma I do have good burn-in protection on it and the burn-in isn't permanent. I've been putting in some 16 hour sessions on minecraft (lol) and it's bad burn-in when I finally quit for the night but the next morning it's pretty much gone. But I still worry, it can't be good for us plasma owners.
Plasma is excellent for gameing, its got great colors, deep blacks, and larger screens. I never had a problem with burn in, what im doing is taking precaution, and putting out the word. Maybe one day 4j will have some time to help out the plasma owners.
suddenly everyones in a fit of rage because people dare to play games on their plasma... OOHHH NOOO!
Isnt that what these forums are for btw? to drop suggestions for 4j to help make everyones playing experience better?

These are the static images, thanks to davesimon for the pic.

You can get a 6ft to 25 ft foe 2 to 12$
Try to make analogies that actually fit the situation. I'll give it an "A" for effort though.
