I have quite a few Slime Balls and I find them uncommonly at this point. It seems to me they only appear in caverns below Lakes. Thats what I've found, anyway.
no point making stockpiles imo, we will end up having to restart our maps anyway.
I don't know about you, but I'm definitely not restarting my map. I've spent 150 hours on it, and I'm not just throwing it all away for some clay or something.
you can use them to make sticky pistons which will be in the next update,.
slimes are green creatures the hop around in the shape of a block. they are hard to find in the xbox version and they very in sizes.
My speciality (apparently) is clearing lava lakes (see my obsidian post). I didn't know it was my specialty, but it just sorta happened. LOL
Well, after I clean out the lava, turn it all to obsidian with water sources and mine it all up, I'm left with these big huge rooms - caverns, really. I'm down at bedrock, and when I run into lava and find the upper surface, it's usually around elev. 7 or 8 or so. And above the lava is about 10 blocks of air... there were actually 3 or 4 separate lava lakes in this area and I wiped em all out. The cavern is humongous, but it's lit with about 100 torches so I didn't have to deal with mobs. In the end, the only mob I had to deal with were the slimes.
What I found is that slimes are spawning in these caverns with extreme frequency. I think the big daddy slime needs this kinda room to spawn. Two days ago when I spent 12 hours or so doing my lava lake disappearing trick, I must've had to kill about 20 of these big square blobs.
I'm just saving them all for sticky pistons, when we finally get those devices. Can't wait to try em, I've been watching a lot of youtube videos on things you can do with 'em.
Just because you found a slime doesn’t mean you found a chunk. They can move around just like any monster. So when you find one you need to clear all a lot of ground to make sure you get the right chunk.
ive used sticky pistons in the pc version, they're really good.
Now that I've started building some redstone creations, I can't wait to get pistons. I've watched a lot of youtube videos about what you can do with em too - simple stuff like star trek-type sliding doors, but also some real inventive stuff, there's a rotating lighthouse video on there. haha Plus, it seems that pistons will really allow us to build automated stuff to do mass farming and collecting.
I almost feel like I should just give the game a break, wait for pistons, and start a whole new world at that point so I'll have clay/brick to collect too. I thought my world would last forever but even though I've built up quite an inventory of all sorts of stuff I can already see that this world was only my first - sort of a trial run for when we get the good stuff via updates.
I know what you mean, ill start a new map but i wont delete my current map. you need new maps for ravines and fortresses or whatever they are called to be generated. im not to bothered about clay but it would be nice.
They're working on expanding the world size, right? I'll just play on my current world until then. That way, when my world expands, the new features (clay, ravines, abandoned mine shafts) will generate in the new terrain.
Right?
I mean, I enjoy this game because of the progression. I like the satisfaction I get from adding another building, or another statue to my world. Starting all over would just kill any motivation I have to play the game. It's like, playing The Sims and making new characters after every in-game day. You'd be like, "I'mma build a house." Then you'd be like, "Ugh, I did this already." Then you'd be like, "I'mma raise my gardening skill. Ughhh I was max skill in my other save..." You gnome sane? I mean, you may chill and be trill, but the skill and the ville and the mill that you build on the grill will spill just a lil'.
I am in the midst of a tremendous slime problem right now... I keep dying and having to reload my saved game... there must be 20 of the big green things bobbing in this large cavern I've carved out of the bedrock. I've been mining a lava lake for obsidian in a branch off the cavern, and when I got back to the main room, it is just FILLED with slimes! I've been having a large amount spawn down there, but mostly never more than two at a time. Tonight, there's too many for me to even try and kill em all.
Luckily, I have a door that I installed to keep mobs from infilrating my branch mine... and I think I can get there and shut it.
Also... my main "road" down there tunnels thru this room. One block between the railway and the cavern. The slimes seem to "drip" thru the single block above, and they pop and click and stuff, green things dripping all around. It really looks more like they're just glitching, but I dunno. Hope 4J looks at the slime thing because whatever is goin on in my world is getting out of hand!!
Edit - yeah, just as I suspected, when I got back they were all gone. Thankfully. Slimes seem so easy to kill, they don't do anything and move so slow... but my sword just seems to go right thru em or something, not sure there's any technique. When faced with about 20 of the things bearing down on me, it was still overwhelming. Interesting evening so far in the world of minecraft.
You kinda have to get lucky when looking for them, but the moment you find a slime, you know you're in one of those chunks.
Sort of like searching for spawners, just gotta get a bit lucky.
