i have viewed several guides on how to make mob grinders etc. I do not understand them. Like i get to making them and they do not work? i need someone to either help me in my world build one or can someone explain in detail or post a video link. It would be highly helpful. i spend hours killing skeletons and creepers and all kinds of monsters and just need a easier way.
1 - total darkness in the spawning area. Light will make it so the mobs don't spawn.
2 - Light every open space within a 72 block sphere of your grinder. Your grinder should be the only dark area.
3 - Stand at least 24, but no more than 72 blocks away. Mobs will not spawn within a 24 block radius of you, and they will not spawn more than 72 blocks away from you.
4 - Prepare to be disappointed when the update "breaks" your grinder.
Based off your post above i made a mob grinder its in the sky. Its falling distance that you die. Its Square but the water canals look like a + sign and the to make it fully square i raised where theirs the squares missing in the plus adding in all 4 corners 2 higher then the canals. the water way is 8 long so it ends at the hole in the floor. what i cant seem to do is make mobs spawn
Can't you make the same thing with a dungeon spawner? They're rare, so it might be a bit more difficult than what you're describing, but it would be a thousand times more reliable, and wouldn't be 'broken' by any update.

Some of my personal friends make a personal house and then just dig until they find either a spawner or a double spawner. Double spawner's would probably be extremely rare in the xbox version, but they move to where the spawner is so they can use it conveniently.
