Will the 360 version ever get close to the PC version content wise? I have minecraft for both, but all my friends are console only type people, and so I can only play with them on console. But Minecraft on PC has so much more content that gives it a ton more playability. Now I don't expect the 360 version to ever end up running the same update side by the side the PC version, especially considering any update on the 360 has to go through an approval process. But will the gap ever be narrowed, atleast down to 1 or 2 official versions behind, rather than like 10? I mean it's torture playing the 360 version with my friends, knowing about all the content I'm missing out on. Friggin trading, enchanting, hunger, ender chests......!!!! >.<
Also is the networking optimization for the 360 version done specifically for LIVE, or does it only have any of the optimizations the corresponding PC version would of had during that version ported over? Like the 360 version is currently Beta 1.6.6, so are all the network optimizations from 1.6.6? Or is it using all the networking knowledge Mojang has gained from working with the PC version? Minecraft may be awesome to play with friends, but it isn't really known for having super smooth online play. It's getting better all the time, but keeping the 360 version on older slower network optimizations would really hurt it. And I'm obviously not expecting it to support 20+ players in the same world like PC servers, but you should really be able to play smoothly with 6-8 people in the same game on a good connection.
Other than these couple qualms, the 360 is surprisingly well adapted to a controller based UI and runs very smoothly. I just want it to get atleast close the PC version in terms of content and online playability. Each version of any game deserves love and support, wether you prefer one platform over another.
Um, I can play a full game of 8 people and it runs completely smooth. PC Servers are still very, very bad when it comes to connection issues.
The game will catch up to the PC eventually. Though I am pretty sure the Xbox version will stop eventually while the PC will keep going for a very long time.
That post talks about a single version update set a month away. It would lead me to believe the 360 version is only gonna get small updates every couple of months, leaving it way behind the PC version indefinitely. I want information on if Mojang plans on keeping the 360 version running at that rate, or if the update process will be sped up. It also says nothing about networking and isn't overall relevant to my post.
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1247592-info-from-livestream-update-info/ Heres another one, as to my prior post i never said it had everything, i only said you should bother to look before posting. As for your comment on connection thats just you and your friends internet. I have yet to expierence any lag, even if a friend who has a poor connection joins my world.
Not really anything to do with Mojang. 4J said that they plan to catch up to the P.C. and have also said that they will keep updating as long as people are 'interested' in the game.
If that is true, which I hope it is, then they will continue to update for years to come as long as the PC one still updates. An apocalypse would have to happen for people to stop being interested, or if a Minecraft 2 would be released, both of which are unlikely.
IMO 20 million dollars in 2 weeks is a pretty good incentive. The 360 version will at some point catch up to the PC but, with this much cash on the line it will take time to do things right. Every update will be criticized and praised just like before. I don't see the Minecraft bandwagon stopping anytime soon. As long as money is to be made, your grand kids will be playing some version of Minecraft.
The P.C. version of Minecraft is just to complicated for me to play with friends. I wish you could just scroll down and see all the worlds available to play on and have a friends list on MC. And not making hosting a server so complicated for the simple minded. Should just say, Host online game, as simple as that!
