So lately I've been having quite a bit of difficulty with anything other then basic Redstone Circuits, and I'm finding that building anything larger then a Switch + Redstone Path + Dispenser impossible.
Today I rigged a moat trap that would capture monsters or farm animals, drag them under a bridge, and into a Lava blade. The trap itself work perfect. The problem is the pressure plates I used with redstone, that are supposed to alert me to new drops, shorts out after maybe 6 or 7 redstone dust paths. This happens with and without the path continuing on a block above it.
The other problem is that Redstone Repeaters seem to do absolutely nothing. I know they have 4 switch positions (Which I assume is Off, Delay On, Repeat On, Delay Off. Something like that) and it seems to do nothing. What exactly is it supposed to do and how do I use it correctly? Assuming it isn't broken.
Redstone Repeaters uh... well, they repeat. You can use them to extend redstone circuits much further than the 16 block limit.
Looking at the top of the repeater you'll notice there's a triangle - it works like a diode, too, with power "flowing" the direction of the arrow. They also add ticks to the duration of the signal.
If you're having trouble with the plate not being able to power the redstone wire segments - this is definitely the item for you.
As soon as the repeater is lit up by a redstone charge it will remain on for X amount of time where X is the position of the switch with 1 being where the torches are touching, 4 being where they're furthest apart.
Experiment with a button to see how it behaves. Buttons are only momentarily on, unlike pressure plates that you have to step off of or switches. Press the button and watch the repeater. Adjust the ticks and do it again.
Lot of helpful information here, thanks guys. This is something I was wondering about too, I've got a lot of learning/experimenting to do with different mechanisms.

If you need any persona; help with this, message me
Thank you for the answers though!
