"There are no big architecture changes with the move to 1.7.3, so it's been quite straightforward. The move to 1.8.2 is much more challenging," 4J Studios co-founder Paddy Burns told OXM. "We are working with Daniel Kaplan at Mojang to define what is going in to the Xbox version, but the aim is to include as many of the PC features that make sense on the Xbox as possible. The game isn't Minecraft on the Xbox, it is Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, so it isn't really a direct port of the PC game."
Wait... define what is going in to the Xbox version? Wasn't the plan to catch up to the PC version? Am I the only one a little worried by that comment?
I'm not worried at all. There will probably be things that just simply wouldn't either feel right, or wouldn't fit on the Xbox version.
Try not to take a statement completely out of context when you don't know exactly what he's talking about. Just wait for further info before making judgements.
I just hope they are talking about PC specific features like mods and world-size, not game features. Things like world size can be worked around (via portals between maps or pre-made maps selected at startup).
its kinda tricky, i read the OXM article too and was kinda confused...
i'd rather take the info i got from the stream with Roger Carpenter and various post from 4j devolpers instead of OXM. Eventhough it had alot of insightful info.
what i got from the Livestream is that almost everything from the PC version will be on MCX, it will just take time to update and port from PC to XBOX 360. though im kinda bummed to hear that it will take a long time to update, i feel better to hear that all updates will be free.
No, it has concerned me too. Unfortunately as with many things that you hear from 4Jstudios it is incredibly ambiguous, it is very difficult to get any straight information from them.
Everything I had heard from them until recently was that it was going to catch up to the P.C. counterpart, though I was always dubious since we first found out how incredibly limited the world size is.
My hopes have long since passed of having 'P.C. Minecraft' on the 360, I think we have to accept that our version is going to settle somewhere between the P.C and the pocket edition versions.
4j and Roger Carpenter have both said that MCX will eventually be up to PC version, i didnt really see how that could be dubious (nice word btw) but i guess they want to be really mysterious about the game so it gets more heat, or they really want to make decisions at the time the update is released

Wow, that's pretty cool. I might download it.
What!? Pretty cool? This is amazing! I mean totaly Jizzinmypantsandeatyourbabaiesforlunchandrapeanythingthatmoves amazing! I love this and going to download now!
If they do plan on connecting the two they will have to increase the world size somehow though..no other way without there being PC servers limiting themselves to the xbox size just to let them play there (IE: NO SERVERS WOULD DO IT) So, that being said I have small hopes for an increase in world size if they can somehow work the code into conserving more space possibly, that is if they do keep up with their 'goal' of linking the two.

That part is kind of really burning me up at the moment - it was announced that the game would have PC->Xbox play, but now it seems like not only is that not even practical (like you said, why would someone on the PC want a 1024x1024 world?) but we're also stuck in old version land for nearly the next year. :'(
4J did a great job, but blargh... why would someone say it would support cross-platform when it's pretty clear there's no way that's happening anytime remotely soon?

How is that rude?
“Minecraft” (Mojang, Microsoft Studios). Known for its limitless possibilities, “Minecraft” will come to life this winter in a whole new way through the magic of Kinect and also feature cross-functionality between the PC and Xbox 360 versions.
There's also the possibility that MC360 might take on a life of its own, probably only with the blessing of Mojang of course. If 4J ever intends to up the server sizes on the 360 (maybe by making official servers which can be rented, BF3 style, while still retaining the ability to play on client-side servers with just your friends), they will need to work out a way to deter griefing. A possible solution would be to look at how Total Miner: Forge handles the issue: with permission zones, which I always thought was a genius idea...I'm surprised it hasn't made it into Minecraft yet. Features like that could really set the 360 edition apart from the PC version.

Click the linked OXM in his post. Takes you right to the article.

I guess at this point the "cross-functionality" is probably not going to actually be relevant to gameplay. :\
Notice the article also says Winter. That announcement was before the delay to Spring.
But I've never seen cross platform play outside of GFWL.
