So, my entire house is sealed shut with wooden planks, with torches all over the exterior. I keep getting woken up at night, even though my bed is 2 spaces away from every wall. I've seen this topic made several times, but have never checked it out, and with the mass threads that go here everyday, I don't really want to dig through this forum to find it. Thanks.

He's a slacker jack and he's okay, he games all night and he sleeps all day.
For every update that is pre-1.0, a door to the bedroom is a good precaution. Also, even though I'm not sure if this will do anything, I had my bed only one block from the walls.
if your walls are cobblestone that might be the problem. its happened to me and i just made the walls of my house wooden planks and it was resolved. i think it has something to do with cobblestone walls acting as "dungeon conditions".
Make sure you have blocks on the hinge side of your door, avoid double doors, put the long side of the bed 1 space or more from walls (head/foot doesn't seem to matter).....
I think the first page of the bug thread would tell you most of that.
As you've mentioned, this is a very widespread problem. Firstly, you need to make sure the area is well lit, both inside and outside. Some of the problem, as it seems you have attempted to resolve, comes from placing the beds too close to the walls. In this case, what I would recommend is making sure the area is well lit inside and outside and also placing wood planks in front of the door when you go to sleep. Once you wake up, take it away and everything should be good.
Hope this helped!

Let me know if any of that helps.
