I just had to log on to complain at the complainers. "OMG THEY'RE TAKING TOO LONG TO UPDATE", let's see why:
1) Microsoft has a fixed amount of updates allowed in a certain period, 4J can only do what they can with the limitations Microsoft sets.
Also, the employee's at 4J have something called a life, they can not spend every day working on it.
2) Updating from the previous world generator is a complete pain for 4J. Do any of you understand the complexity of math and algorithms used in Perlin Noise for the map generation? I actually just read (and almost half implemented) this onto my 2D game : http://http.developer.nvidia.com/GPUGems/gpugems_ch05.html
3) Bug fixing on different platforms is like licking your elbow; sure, you'll get their eventually but it's a kick in the ass on the way. Do you all enjoy the current bugs MCXBOX has? Then please, continue your complaints. Maybe some bugs can set the developers back, but more than likely they're using something called a "road-map" that was made before or during early development.
4) There are things called "Preprocessor Directives", which can be used to include/exclude code on the fly, so for all you know, they could have some working features found in 1.8 or later but can not include due to the road-map and/or additional features/functions/code/data/whatever needed for it.
TL;DR - If you all have even a tiny shred of decency, you'd sit down and enjoy what you're given because it's better than nothing at all. 4J will catch up to the current PC version but it requires time, the only thing 4J is asking of you.
well i we just have wait for a month its not that bad but i thought the updates would be faster because now mine craft is the second most played game on Xbox 360
That's pathetically long. 4J Continue to disappoint it seems.
I could not agree more. The xbox version will never up to date with the PC at this rate. Every single week more and more content is added to pc while 4J struggles to get out a small update in around 2 months. Granted I understand MS has a bit to do with the delay, it should not take so long.
When porting you obviously cannot just copy and paste code, but it should go MUCH faster than when the original Java coding was first developed. This is because most of the ideas are still there, and issues that came up in the first version can be avoided. Granted there are other bugs that arise, but those are still a minor setback.I find it pretty disappointing just how long this is taking. Porting the updates up to around the current PC version should take no more than 4-5 months, yet I can see the process taking absolutely forever.
If the 1.8 update doesn't come out till Christmas, like previously speculated, then we can see the current PC version being met around March or May next year. By then the PC version will be MILES AHEAD, and 4J will have no hope of ever catching up.
So they had better step up their game now and begin updating the xbox version fast, or else they are gonna lose a lot of credibility. If Microsoft's update system is really a huge issue, then I would rather they released only a few major updates with minor bug fixes in between.
Also, the employee's at 4J have something called a life, they can not spend every day working on it.
Are you serious? The developers at 4J are being PAID to do this, because it is their JOB. They are not indie developers that have a separate job entirely, though maybe an indie dev could do their work faster...
It took Mojang about a month to update the PC version from 1.6.6 to 1.7.3. That included concept, development, and testing, from scratch. It's going to take 4J two months to do the same update, except they have the added luxury of knowing exactly what needs to go into that update, because its been done before. Not only that, they're porting from Java to C#, two incredibly similar coding languages. Also, approval times for updates aren't set in stone, most of Bethesda's updates for Skyrim were made available around a week after they were released to Microsoft for approval.
Most of the bugs in MC360 are bugs that were present in 1.6.6 on PC (and thus were probably intentionally left in the game to make porting the updates less complicated). These bugs were fixed as parts of the various official updates, and so there is no reason for 4J to release seperate bug fixes when the updates are designed for that purpose anyway.
I think somebody is slacking at 4J. That or Microsoft is.
If you all have even a tiny shred of decency, you'd sit down and enjoy what you're given because it's better than nothing at all.
I'm sorry, I was under the impression that I paid for this product, and am therefore paying 4J's salary. They did not send me this game as a gift to gamers everywhere. They have obligations to their customers just like any other company.

Your words exact, "the EMPLOYEES at 4j...." doesnt matter if they have lifes or not, if its their job then they have to do it.
What a bunch of whiners. Here's the thing about whiners. They are going to whine no matter what happens. 1.7.3 could have come out yesterday and they would already be whining about the next update. Just ignore the babies and go play some Minecraft
Eh, I am quite fine with what I have to do with the XBLA version at the moment. Of course it would be a lot more fun if they were updating it to the adventure update, but I can't hate because now that my computer sucks I can play on my 360. Sure it's not the same, but it's still Minecraft. And I'm pretty sure this update coming in July, or whenever, will have the bugs fixed considering they have already fixed one set of bugs from this update a while back for the PC.
July? Well i guess its worth waiting for the pistons....i quite like minecraft in the beta version im not to keen on all of these new things they are adding for the pc

Wise words. The 1.7.3 update is going to come out and people are going to complain that 4J added elements from 1.8 and it's not true to the original timeline. None of us have any idea what's going on over there, so everyone would be wise to stop acting like they do. When was it ever said that MCX would be caught up to PC in no time? I don't know why so many people were expecting this. Just let it happen, bitching and moaning will get you nowhere and isn't helping anyone. When it comes down to it we're at their mercy, so we can sit here and complain that the world isn't fair, or we can enjoy the great game that we paid for.
Off topic as all get out, but im saying it.
ChilliD, i like you. You're one of the few in this thread who actually makes sense.
Back on topic!
Whether everyone and their grandma bitches, pisses, and moans about the update coming in July or not, the update is coming in July. As far as im concerned, end of topic.

If you want to reach for indefinitive conclusions like, "No one ever said the game would be updated within a reasonable amount of time," then we can take the opposite and say, "No one ever said the game would be outdated for a ridiculous amount of time."
Neither of those are useful, constructive statements. :\
I personally paid for MineCraft 360 that will go to and above the current PC version and feature PC and Xbox cross-platform functionality.
Now, saying that having an expectation to receive the features the game was marketed to have before release relatively quickly is an unreasonable expectation.... that's ridiculous.
You should also consider that the game was delayed by MicroSoft for a quarter before it was released. If there was a plan to update MineCraft 360 and the original release date was one quarter previous to when it was released..... really, shouldn't we already have the update? Was the original release cycle including releasing the 1.7.3 update nearly 6 months after initial release?
All of it makes me really kind of disappointed. MC360 was enjoyable for about a week until all of my friends got bored and tired of hearing me say, "Oh, that's not in this version.... but they say it will be eventually!"
If they do eventually add mods it will almost definitely be DLC, not a free update. And I don't think there's any kind of ETA on that at this point in time.
I'm sorry if this has already been talked about but I don't really feel like reading through 100+ posts. I just heard from a friend that when the update comes everything is going to reset and we will have to start our worlds over. Is this true?

Sweet. I really don't want it autosaving since I haven't had any freezing issues.
