I have no clue how hard or how long porting takes, but when it your job im pretty sure you could get it done faster than 3 months. Also its not just one person it s a team. Another factor is probably something to do with Microsoft and them having to review updates for games which takes them ages, none the less i am disappointed.
Although it may take a couple months, I can wait because there are alot of awesome things on the forums! Like people that helped me choose a PC build to play Minecraft on <3
As has been said many times in this forum, if they let you play split screen on a SDTV you would be screaming 'give me my money back cos I can't read the crafting menus'
This. We have a large 3D HDtv, and even when just playing me and my gf it's difficult to read stuff.
If these extended update times are necessary for the porting then I am totally OK with that. But something tells me that this is just one of Microsoft's marketing schemes... after all, I would leave it to them to kill any community based game with their excessive regulations, slow update times, and the fact that they will make developers charge for any sort of expansion to a game.
I think 4J's doing a great job. They ported this game to the xbox, and even after it's initial sales, are going to continue to work on it. Patience is a virtue, the time will go by really fast, and the people who are most upset are the ones constantly thinking about. Play the game and have fun, play your pc minecraft, play another game or do something else, if your not focused on the release date, it will go by that much faster.
Its pretty funny. All this update is adding is pistons LOL. and a few fixes to more issues brought on by 4J like crashing.
And for all the people saying "Hurr durr respect them making a game is hard" I don't care, its their jobs, the studio is swimming in money right now when in reality they seem to be completely and utterly freaking incompetent.

Whatever, I've lost nearly all drive to continue with this game. I'll wait until 2020 when they implement a buggy limited version of 1.8
My thoughts as well
TBH i see both sides of this argument but im a consumer so ill side with them, i do also feel alittle "ripped off" or "let down" by some of the aspects of MCX but who really knows what the reasons are besides 4j..... and the fact that the hardly ever check these forums... or have there own is pretty sh*tty customer service imho...
i am spoiled, i admit by mojang, even with notch gone jeb is just as good about actually letting people know whats going on with the game.
a guy in this thread said "millions of lines of code" really? seriously? lol ill just leave this alone.....
I agree 4j should be more forthcoming with updates, put the hammer down and do some work, alot of people say its hard to port over a game, have you never heard of programs that convert sources from one language to another?
Alot of people been saying, ohh well they ported it so good it has the same bugs as the pc version..... thats because they used such a program as i said.... so why is it taking soo long? sure they gotta clean it up but seriously how much code you think is in minecraft? obviously not "millions" lol
Basically not to rant but the fact that it is sooo far behind, and will prolly take a good year to catch up to 1.2.5 by then mojang will be light years ahead.... they need to focus on the major game problems and not avoid them.
1st - is GAME WORLD SIZE, take your crappy split screen and remove it from my copy....... i want unlimited world size..... it is possible dont kid yourself or pee on me and tell me its raining.... on my pc MC never uses more than 150 mgs or RAM EVER!stop saying xbox only has 512..... thats plenty, learn to optimize your crappy code. and my laptop is only a duel core not triple like xbox...... i still get 30+ fps on my 55 HD tv full screen and on far view on my 3 year old sony vaio laptop......
2nd - see point 1
3rd - see point 2, and you can forget the adventure updates lol, like no nether fortresses maybe spawing in the small nether or maybe no villages, or hey how about maybe no strongholds? hey maybe a village will be spawned on a ravine and the ravine will cut through the end room of the stronghold and a mineshaft will cut through that, but hey we got splitscreen who needs the good stuff in game....... mommy and daddy can play with you and make a dollhouse together...... and you all can climb the bedrock walls in the nether LMFAO! seriously..........
all in all yeah im mad, i still have hope for mcx but seriously doubt it will ever compare. for now and for the next year at least at this rate of updates by 4j ill be on my pc...... playing "real minecraft" sucks cause id much rather play kicked back instead of hunkering over a keyboard and mouse the entire reason i wanted mc for xbox but...... hey at least when granny visits we can play splitscreen together in our own "little" xbox world.......
if i had it to do again id have waited for mcx.... anyone reading this should do the same. get a decent pc and give your money to mojang. 4j obviously is a lackluster dev..... why ohh why notch did you select such people....... this coulda been king over pc mc if someone who actually gave a **** about the heart of the game was developing it.....

This.
@DigitalLunacy I will never understand how people can rip into 4J while they're working hard to catch MCX up to PC. And they're providing these updates FOR FREE while their customers are talking all kinds of trash on them.
You MUST keep in mind that this is basically a new game, and it should be treated as such. Just because you are familiar with the PC version doesn't mean you're entitled to everything it has on your xbox right this very moment because you want it. They're starting from a stable version and patching it upwards. For crying out loud the first major update hasn't even occured yet and people are running for the hills saying that 4J is terrible. Are you insane? When the PC game was preparing to patch to 1.7.3 did they accomplish everything in a day? Or did everyone lose all hope and start bashing Mojang? Be realistic peope. Give them a chance to do their jobs, this game JUST CAME OUT.
and the fact that the hardly ever check these forums... or have there own is pretty sh*tty customer service imho...
4JStu and 4JSteve frequent these forums and are nothing but helpful and are VERY open and honest while providing great insight and information. Give credit where credit is due. To me it makes sense that they would become a part of these forums, where the community is.
You're sure acting like it, and I'm not flaming you or taking a personal shot but it's the perfect way to illustrate this point. Everyone bashing 4J is coming across as nothing more than a spoiled brat. "I want this. It should be here now. I want my money back." Well guess what, you don't get to decide that. This is a business and there is a way these things work. Just let it happen, you people haven't even given it a month. Calm down and let everyone work. Updates are coming.
Excuse my harshness but this just flusters me to no end. I don't get it.
Im almost certain no one here has extensive knowledge in both Java AND C++ (i have a little in C++, not enough to matter). My challenge to you, take a pre-made Java game that has millions upon millions of lines of Java code, read it, interpret it, and convert it into proper C++ syntax in such a way that the Xbox 360 can also read it, interpret it, and run it to make a completely bug free version of Minecraft 1.2.5.
I may not have extensive knowledge of both, but I do know and have coded in both languages (substantially more C++ than Java) and can tell you that a lot of people are blowing the difficulty of a conversion out of proportion. Is it an easy process? No. Is it something that anybody can do? No. That being said, most people don't have degrees in computer science or have a career in programming.
Take this into consideration:
Java, created by Sun Microsystems, is in many ways quite similar to C++. In fact, Java derives much of its syntax (expecially that which relates to classes) from C++. Java is an easier language to program in as it does not have nearly as many low level operations and can run optimally on any hardware that has a JVM. Converting from C++ to Java is significantly more difficult as you would need to figure out how to take the more advanced low-level functions of C++ and translate them into a more simplistic language. Going from Java to C++ is noticeably easier.
Yes, there are millions of lines of code to sort through, but professional developers are notoriously meticulous about making notes in their code. That way, they can just look at the notes and know what the lines of code are for. The most difficult part for 4J is over: translating the entire base game to C++.
I'm not going to say that I could do it as I don't have that kind of time or the professional or educational background to do it confidently. I'm just trying to put things in perspective a bit.

1. Make LT/RT(which do nothing in menus currently IIRC) zoom in/out while viewing inventories
2. ???
3. PROFIT
Perhaps not the most elegant fix, but it'd work and would be easy to implement. There is no excuse.
Can anyone tell me what new things where added in 1.7.3? i checked the wiki page but it only shows bug fixes not added things, because if its only pistons that where added than it is ridiculous to take 1+ months! (sorry i forget things alot so idk what things where added in what versions, ive had minecraft on pc since 1.2 beta)

Thank ye.

I highly doubt Mojang was able to specify which developer would handle MC360.
This.

I agree, no point in "Trying" to catch up.
