That would all make sense if the updates weren't free... Except they are title updates so they will be.
think about it this way. if you haven't bought it yet and have been following along on these forums, twitter, and other sources, keep hearing about how the game is good but everyone is waiting and talking about a feature that is kinda big (pistons 1.7.3, adventure/creative 1.8,ect.) that's not in the game yet, wouldn't you kind of wait for it to show up before you bought it? july is a different quarter than may. that little bit of new free content at that time will make a nice sized uptick in overall sales for that quarter. combine that with M$ points deals during the summer and the holidays, that might mean another 100k people during the summer and maybe another 50k-100k people around x-mas. those figures look pretty good on a quarterly profit chart even though those are really low guesses on how many people are going buy the game after just those features are added. i know about 6 people that won't buy it right now because it doesn't have pistons, melons, and/or creative. just because the updates are free doesn't mean that there isn't money made by dropping them at the right time.
That's pathetically long. 4J Continue to disappoint it seems.
No, they don't though. People seem to put them on a pedestal, and then when they find out that no the update is going to be in July they get disappointed. 4J shouldn't be praised, but they should be given a lot of respect, because they took Minecraft and ported it to the 360.
This was the reason they never stated a solid date.

I'm sorry this is off topic, but whenever I read any of your posts I read it in Morgan Freeman's voice in my head. Just thought you should know.
Ha, that is pretty awesome.
And to everyone else who is freaking out or disappointed, calm down and just play the game. The update will be here in no time (compared to the wait for the actual game.)
Is it really so ridiculous? I feel like a lot of people are too quick to overreact. The game has only been out for two weeks and we're already complaining that the update isn't coming soon enough? Another month+ isn't bad at all, plenty to be excited about! Perhaps the countless hours we've already spent playing have us forgetting how recently it was actually released. All in due time, my friends. Patience is a virtue.
Wait... so they're ACTUALLY going to go update-to-update? I expect the first update we got to bring us all the way to 1.0. After two months all we get is pistons? The game will never even get close to catching up at this rate. Jeez, I almost want a refund now. I just don't see how it can take so long. The game is made, all they gotta do is convert the code. They don't even need to make textures or anything, the assets are there!
I imagined it being like this:
May - 1.6.x
July- 1.0
September - 1.2
October - 1.3?
What a disappointment

Have you ever taken a game made in Java, and ported it to C++?

It honestly baffles me how you could be upset that the very first update isn't taking such a huge leap in just 2 months or so after the game was released. 2 months is not a long time in the grand scheme of things. Not sure why everyone seems to have such extreme hopes when it comes to update timelines. It's a new game, think of it as such and enjoy the ride! Keep in mind that people are working very hard on these updates and we're getting them for free.
Never have I seen so much whining and complaining in one thread.
This argument has been stated many times, and Ill state it again:
Im almost certain no one here has extensive knowledge in both Java AND C++ (i have a little in C++, not enough to matter). My challenge to you, take a pre-made Java game that has millions upon millions of lines of Java code, read it, interpret it, and convert it into proper C++ syntax in such a way that the Xbox 360 can also read it, interpret it, and run it to make a completely bug free version of Minecraft 1.2.5.
Notice how I went straight to the current version? B1.6.6 to B1.7.3 was not a huge step, but that is still millions of lines of code they all have to sift through and convert. Its not a quick and easy process. For them to say they'll have it out in two months impresses me greatly. The fact they released this game within a year of announcing it, further impresses me. 4J Studios are busting their balls to get this game out to us in the way we want it, and most of you repay them with "You're not doing a good enough job."
I admit, the HD requirement for split screen was a bad move on their part (i know its off topic, but it was going to be mentioned) and I side with the community on the refunds of it. But this senseless whining and moaning about an update taking two months is just pathetic. I want to see each and every person who whined in this thread to (legally, of course) make a port of Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 in C++, get it reviewed by Microsoft, and posted to the Xbox Live Marketplace in less time it will take 4J Studios to do it.

Because 1.8 is a lot of stuff to implement

However, I hear they are adding a little more features with 1.7.3. Anyone care to shed some light on this?
From what I've read from Stu/Steve(Don't remember who said it), things such as the 1.8 lighting may be implemented. But that's all I know.
Ah, very nice. Thank you.
I'm eager to see the new changes.

It is in fact true, no one made this up.
Then you don't understand how this process works.
Just sit back and be patient, enjoy the game!
