I was in contact with Microsoft support today trying to get my refund since I had downloaded the game at launch and hadn't known about the splitscreen needing an hdtv. The problem was that I downloaded the trial of the game when it launched but payed for the full game after they updated the description on the marketplace. Since I had downloaded the trial, I went through an in-game menu to buy the full game and wasn't aware of the hd requirement for splitscreen until this afternoon. The customer support representitve that I chatted with recommended me to go through Mojang to get my refund. Can someone contact me with a way to settle this? I have a copy of the chat log in an email that I can provide to show that the support specialist told me to contact someone who represents minecraft to help me.

Harsh but you can't expect a refund if you didn't research what you were buying fully. I'm as guilty as the next person with arcade games and very rarely look into the game and buy it to see what its like but if you didn't look into it you can't expect someone else to pick up the cost for your mistake.

Crazy, good to see support given don't think many other games would of done this. Still ... How people are not happy with this game is beyond me.
I can see why people are extremely dissapointed about splitscreen being HD exclusive, although I'm amazed there are still people without HDTVs. Though if I bought the game for splitscreen and found I couldn't play it, I wouldn't want a refund. I'm assuming that if a refund is given, they take the game away from the person who bought it. If that isn't how it's going down then it should be that way.
The game is still easily worth $20 without the splitscreen.

I couldn't ask for my $$ back if even if I had a SDTV. For a $20 game I can't complain as I already have more hours in this game than most of my $60+ games... Besides the split screen option is pretty poor and its not 4J's fault, it's just shirinks the sceen down too much for me even on my 50in HDTV. But to each their own, if you get your $ back good for you and I hope it works out for you in the end!
Anyone who has a 360 + PC but not an HD TV, is a disgrace to gamers. It's 2012. They aren't expensive.
This is exactly what I was thinking. Flat screens are constantly being outdated, worse than ipods (the word "ipod" isn't marked as misspelled for me). You can find them for cheap all of the time, I picked up my 32 inch for $230 at a supermarket. Maybe you wont get the best, but anything is better than a tube.
Anyone can get a refund simply by asking for it and claiming you have an SDTV, and you keep the game. Weird, I know.
...What the?! Who provides these refunds Microsoft or the developers? I can definitely see people abusing this but as for myself I have respect for the people that made this game. Therefore I wouldn't dare try something like this especially if it comes out of their pockets in the end.

thats why i want to know how it fair because to my knowledge there is no possible way for them to delete it so like you said they will have a free game while if we have hd tvs we dont get our money back while keeping the game
edit: ah yes forgot they can revoke the license so you couldnt use it anymore
how can you get a refund ??? its not like they can take the arcade game off you xbox lol if it was CD then yes because you obviously would sent that back for the refund
Actually Microsoft can revoke the license but Mojang can't so I don't see why Microsoft did this other than to get you off of their backs.
A while back my friend gave me his extra account because (he lived in Canada at the time) and before he was there he owed me some money. Anyways, I agreed for it to be paid through MSP but Canadian points don't work on US accounts so he had to use the points on the other account and then let me recover.
One problem was that in the location of the account he had it as US so he could access the US marketplace and with some of the points he had on it a while before he bought a movie but he couldn't watch since he is in Canada. Then since he gave me the account (and it was mine after that) I called MS and they actually gave a refund on the points and revoked the license to the movie (and a piece of content as well).
After that I had more points to use.

100% agree
You tried it out, but you still want a refund?
I wouldn't have the guts to even try that.
