If you guys ever came across a slime at a certain spot in a certain cave, then you need to remember where you have encountered it because that's the specific chunk the slimes will spawn in.
To make a slime farm just make a room where you found the Slime at, 4 blocks tall and maybe 16 wide. Make sure to light up the room so other Mobs can't spawn and it doesn't matter how dark it has to be for a Slime to spawn. If a Slime spawns do not use a sword or other weapons your fist may be the safest option but I may be wrong but reason for this is that they'll multiply to smaller Slimes making them drop slimes which can be used to make Pistons for later updates.
Hope this help you miners out.

After seeing this post, I went back to where I previously found a slime. Cleared out some space to make a slime farm area, put up torches, left and came back and voila! Two slimes had spawned
Since then I haven't been so lucky, so I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on how close to stand to the slime spawn area. According to the wiki:
"slimes will not spawn within 24 meters (spherical) of any player. Similarly, slimes will despawn after some time if no player is within 32 meters, and despawn instantly if no player is within 128 meters."
So I assume I need to be at least 24 blocks away, and hopefully within 32 blocks. That seems difficult however, since you can't tell where the edges of the chunk are. So would it be best to just get pretty far away (not too close to 128 though), then just check frequently and hope the slimes haven't despawned?

Ummm, i usually go mining but not too far and not too close just close enough so i can hear them jumping when they spawn, so most likely stay in the same cave. I know sounds boring. Try working on some projects like building a railway to the caves or build a house in the caves so you have somewhere to sleep. Right now im tryna clear out the whole cave and make it more civilized and so im close to the farm. Try expanding your farm i just did recently and i had 5 Slimes spawn in it at the same time. Hope this helped you out enough.
I wish I saw this sooner =(. I found two places with slimes and they didn't drop anything so I thought they weren't important until I found out that they drop slimeballs wich are important =(.

So slimes DO drop things? I have never had them drop anything before.
Some of my mob spawners won't even spawn mobs!
Yes they do drop items, Slime Balls used for Pistons. Just punch them to death and they'll drop it. Weapons are a bit sketchy to use.
