Sometime before the release of the game, I too thought scarcity would be possiblle: for diamonds, iron, etc. But according to the math, there are 350+ billion blocks out there. Also, who needs all 12000+ diamonds? I've only used 3 diamonds so far and that diamond pick axe is still at some 95+% condition. The only thing I would like to dupe is a bunch of redstone to build computer parts with but redstone is really outdated at the moment (for data/binary calculation) and no pistons to build automatic farms or other practical uses. I'll just wait for creative mode to release whenever it does.
Dude, I've had calculus. I'm saying, X is horizontal, and Y is vertical. The origin (0,0) is at the bottom left. So the Z axis should be the diagonal from bottom left to upper right.

My point is, it's going to be much harder to find diamonds in a world you've already mined a lot of, when on the PC version, all you have to do is expand your world and bam, a fresh landscape with 12,000 more diamonds.
I'm either completely misunderstanding what you're saying or it doesn't make sense - the Z axis is never a diagonal. Diagonals cannot be produced by a single axis. If you're saying 0,0 is the bottom left, the destination is "top right", and the way to get there is to move linearly in Z..... I'm lost. I guess you have had calculus, though, so I'll stop trying to help.
Let us know if you find clay - I've had 0 luck in two of my worlds. I spawned next to 3 blocks of it in another. Annoying.
MineCraft was originally an OpenGL game and the coordinate system would be the same... You can verify with the PC version. Spawn areas are generally within a few hundred blocks (you can verify on the wiki) from the origin (0, Y, 0 where Y is not fixed depending on the landscape).
The bottom left (more accurately, bottom left of the X,Z plane as if you were flying above the world) is never, ever the origin (0, 0).
If a player has exhausted the existing world of finite materials I see no problem for using this glitch to compensate. That being said, I guess no one will be using the glitch for this reason for at least another month.
A 360 world is 1 million square blocks. Multiply that by 128 to get the full volume of a 360 world (128 million), and then halve that to get the average number of mineable blocks (64 million). 64 million blocks would take a long, long time to fully exhaust of resources.
In other words, the OP's premise doesn't hold water.
That said, world size is too small presently. That I am in agreement with.
I think, that they should add some way, such as regeneration(though that would probably be much harder to make, and your mines and stuff would be gone), or maybe they should add rare drops, for every non-renewable thing, so if you kill a creeper, it would have a VERY low chance of dropping maybe diamonds, etc.
Maybe an addition of connecting worlds with maybe portals? And your inventory stays. So that way you could have tons of worlds that are limited, but you can keep connecting and getting resources.
For example, maybe a good starting mod would be to have is the mod where you can connect worlds, but then again, multiplayer would be hard because the one host would still have to load multiple worlds if different players are in seperate worlds. Possibly starting with only in non-online games?

Just a few suggestions.
Someone in one of my threads suggested separate, connected save games for different worlds, and you could go to each different world by going to the edge of the map.
I added onto this idea, suggesting that a nether portal placed on the edge of the map could turn green instead of purple, and would take you to another normal world. You could take your items with you, and another portal would be created on the other side, leading back to the world you just came from.
That was me with the suggestion, don't think I've been back to the original thread so hadn't seen your addition. Personally I think it sounds like a great visualisation for it
But, how will this work for online games? If multiple people are in separate worlds, the host will still need to host all of the different world data, which obviously is a problem for the Xbox, considering that's basically what this topic is about. The only solution i can think of at the moment is if, actually, i'll give an example.
Bob has a world on Minecraft : Xbox 360 Version. He has 2 friends who come on regularly. He has a second world connected, through a portal. He is in World 1, which is loaded. His 1st friend, let's called him, Tom, wants to head over to World 2. Now, Bob has two worlds loaded on his Xbox. It blows up.. Or something along those lines, Because the Xbox can't take 2 worlds. But, if Tom we're to enter World 2 while Bob is in World 1, Tom could host the world since he's the first who entered and loaded it. Though Bob still is in control of all the world options, Tom still hosts world 2. And i just realized i didn't really need a second friend. Either way, her name is Grace.
Ha, That was such a random example. Anyways, i don't know if that is what you guys had in mind already or not, but it was just an idea, because if 'Bob' we're to be able to run 2 worlds, then we wouldn't even need the portal because they could just make the world size 2000x2000.
They really, really, need to figure out a way of increasing our worlds because the current map is just too small for anybody playing one map and hoping to keep it going for quite some time (basically what Minecraft is supposed ot be all about, the game expands with you). I dont care how they do it, but it needs to come quickly. We are running out of room and resources already.
I understood there would be 'some' limitations before I bought this game, but damn, this map size came as a shock and I kinda wished I had waited now until I at least knew for sure that they would increase it somehow. Playing a continuous survival game over a long period of time is impossible as it stands right now, or will be very soon when we run out of resources. Could strip mine to get a little more, but to me thats not in the spirit of the game, and lets be honest we would have to hollow out the entire bottom half of the map anyway in the long run, ridiculous.
Yeah... when it's only been two weeks, and some people are already starting to feel the pressure of resources becoming limited and scarce, something needs to be done. PC players can play on one world for literally years.

Is it just me, or does the radius of a map on Minecraft PC seem large enough to stay in forever(if your base is right in the middle)? I have really never moved out of my map's radius to collect resources before. A 10x10 mine and occasional cave crawling gives me all I need. I think it's me, though, because I have at least over five worlds on this computer.
On-topic: In MCXB360, I am building a 205x90x30 rectangular city with walls and ceiling of stone(when you look how many stone blocks and coal pieces that is on a calculator, you'll be surprised). The ground will be a chain of 5x21 gravel streets as well as 16x16 empty properties/buildings. This has taken me hours upon hours to do, and I have only almost finished the walls(not the ceiling) and not even one-fourth of the floors. I have to say that this required MULTIPLE inventory's worth of cobblestone, gravel, and coal. From collecting so much cobblestone, I have over four and a half stacks of iron ingots, 18 gold(bad luck for a while now), and seven diamonds.
My point is that I have only "explored," maybe, less than 25% of my 1000x1000 area(which is about the size of the city). Do not incorrectly interpret me; people can do the duplication glitch all they want and I will not really care. I just don't think it is necessary to do so when the entire world has hardly been examined(I am using that word because the area I "explored" were just some nearby cave systems). You don't have to do that to the whole world, but there is enough to last without duplication until the world size is expanded. Personally, I believe they should hold that off until the version is restored far enough, but that's my twice change(see what I did there).

I want to stay in my world for a very very long time. Even if my resources don't become scarce anytime soon, they will eventually. And if I wait to do the duplication exploit until then, it will have been patched already, and I won't be able to clear my cache and play offline, because the update will have added various gameplay elements to my gamesave, so I will basically NEED that update to be able to play my save.
So I'm doing it now, while I still can.

I thought it was where X and Y axis intersect, so the Z axis (the diagonal from the origin to the top right)?
If X and Y were equal you'd be climbing stairs.

Cool, dude. Me, too. I've also had falafels.

We need to make this happen

I don't have a single cactus or pumpkin in my world =[
