I use the duplication exploit. Here's why:
You see, I play Minecraft 360 a lot, and when you play in a world with a very limited size, you run out of accessible resources. My primary house and city are in the center of the map, and I have to go to the very outskirts of the entire world to even find a cavern that I haven't cleared out, because I've already cleared out all the surface (and subsurface) caverns in a 400-block radius of my house.
Please keep in mind that it's only been two weeks since the game came out. After playing in this world for only a month or two, I'm going to start seeing some serious resource scarcity. While some resources are renewable, such as wood or feathers, most resources aren't. Things like iron, flint, and even sand will start to be hard to find.
Rules I Follow:
I don't duplicate materials needed to survive. Surviving is my favorite part of the game. I have a 200x8x3 mushroom farm, and identical sugarcane and wheat farms. I calculated yesterday that I have enough mushroom stews to restore ~2500 hearts. I really enjoy farming, and since those are renewable resources, I won't duplicate those. Which brings me to my next point:
I don't duplicate renewable resources. I only use the duplication exploit on materials like iron and glass, and onlybecause I've already mined close to 100% of those materials in a rather large radius. To get more iron legitimately, I'd have to travel to the edge of the map and look for a surface cavern there instead. I'd rather not do that, as that would further deplete my nonrenewable resources. I'll save that for when I expand my city to that area.
I never duplicate items that I build with. That makes the game less rewarding. If I'm building a castle, and I'm using a lot of cobblestone, I'll just go mine more. I actually really enjoy mining, even though I have 10,000+ cobblestone. But if I'm building a mine cart track that leads to the castle, and I'm running low on iron (I have a lot of mine cart tracks...), I'll just duplicate the tracks. Since wood is renewable and stone is so abundant for now, I don't duplicate those. I also don't duplicate fuel, as there is plenty of coal for now, and even when I run out, I can always make charcoal out of renewable wood.
The Summary:
In PC Minecraft, every material is renewable due to the infinite world size: if you mine all the diamonds or iron in one section, you can just expand your world to another section. This solution is not available in Minecraft 360. I don't duplicate to cheat, I duplicate to extend the life and playability of my world.
I put a lot of work into making this world my own, and I don't fancy having to start a new world because resources get scarce, or even because new updates aren't compatible with my current world. I still want to be playing this world six months from now, which is why I've stocked up on nonrenewable resources. I still mine for them, but I want to have backup stashes for when resources become scarce due to limited world size.
Important: I do not want to play Creative Mode, because the survival aspect is my favorite part of the game.
I'll still duplicate after the exploit is patched. I'll just clear my cache, duplicate the iron or glass I need, and then redownload the updates. As long as I have space in this world, I want to have access to materials.
I personally have no bad feelings toward the duplicate glitch. It doesn't bother me that people use it (I don't though), but I do understand why people feel it takes from the game. The way you are doing things sounds like a good plan, and a great way to get the most out of a world that will be depleted in due time.
I'm also sure there are people that dupe everything just because they can, but whatever.
The best justification for the dupe glitch right now though would be because there is no creative mode.

I just really don't want to play Creative Mode... While I enjoy building things, it's my least favorite part of the game. I enjoy mining, farming, and surviving.
I agree to your plan. I just like people who duplicate everything and i wouldn't want to delete my world too.Though i do know a guy on minecraft xbox360 who just duplicates everything and think thats wrong but point is i think your right

No that's understandable, and I do agree that your reasoning is very good. I'm just saying that no Creative mode is probably the top reason people are duping, because they can easily create whatever they want without having to mine for it.

Thank you =)
Someone who duplicates literally everything is probably doing so because Creative Mode hasn't arrived yet, which is understandable. It may be an exploit, but it's not detracting from the gameplay of others, so it's fine. Besides, they basically make the exploit 'legal' in a future update (Creation Mode), so...
While I only duplicate scarce, nonrenewable resources, I do understand the reasoning of people who duplicate every material. They just have a different gameplay style than me, I guess, and I'm fine with that.
That's fine. Have fun starting a new world every month or two because you have trouble finding nonrenewable resources.
I plan to do that, anyway - I'd rather have a fresh world with real biomes when the update hits rather than an old world with retrofit weirdness.....
Just keep your save where you made your uber-house and go make another one. There really isn't a point in continuing a game you feel that you have exhausted all resources from.
...coming on here trying to justify what you do, with the reasons you do it, in an effort to convince others is a poorly thought through argument in my opinion.
Have you read the Constitution? Particularly the Bill of Rights?
I can understand your principles behind why you do it, however you hugely exaggerate the scarcity of resources, I doubt you have used even 10% of what is on your map.
Furthermore you contradict yourself really, you cite having to go to the edge of the map to find certain resources as a reason you dupe. Yet you say on P.C. you wouldn't need to dupe since the world size is (as far as we are concerned) endless, you would still have to travel.
There are about 12,000 diamonds on your map so god knows how much Iron or Gravel, you won't run out for a long time. In reality this is just laziness to find them, wouldn't you agree?
Clay, glowstone and pumpkins are in reality the only resources that are dangerously limited.
With all that said, if you want to dupe on your own server then that is up to you, it is your game to play as you wish. But coming on here trying to justify what you do, with the reasons you do it, in an effort to convince others is a poorly thought through argument in my opinion.
My point is that an Xbox360 player will eventually run out of space and resources. I'm just preparing for that.
12,000 diamonds, you say? They only spawn on layers 1-15, and with a world size of 1024x1024, that makes about 15,000,000 spaces those diamonds could spawn in. That means that for every 1,250 blocks you mine in layers 1-15, you will find one diamond. I'd say those are pretty low odds, and with the current world size being this small, my bottom-layer mine shafts are already running into each other all over the place. I need more space to mine, without the constant disappointment of running into mine shafts I've already mined through...
Besides, diamonds aren't important to me. They aren't necessary. The only thing I use diamonds for is pickaxes. Every other tool, I just use the stone version.
The point: Limited World = Limited Resources = Limited Playability. I'm just attempting to artificially expand the equation.
I'm sure that the limitations of the 360 hardware may not allow branching worlds like in the PC version, but how about when you walk to the edge of your section the game loads a new one with separate save etc but you can keep the items you have on you when you cross back and forth.
This sounds like a great idea. Maybe if you put a Nether Portal on the very edge of the map, it becomes green instead of purple, and takes you to another normal world with a different, but connected, save file?
I recommend you post a separate thread where people can discuss this, as it is a simple but workable solution to perhaps the game's most severe problem.
As for the statement you made about mining, I actually do mine quite a bit. I have numerous 2-block high straight mine shafts, each two blocks apart, that go completely across the map. Redstone is way too common, considering the current lack of uses for it.
While nonrenewable resources may seem plentiful, there will come a time (very soon) in most people's worlds where they're going to have mined all over the place. There may still be resources down there, but it would be a lot easier on the player if they could just expand the world and mine somewhere fresh. But that's impossible.
Having the right to speak here hasn't been question, I stated that your argument was poorly thought through
My argument was excellently thought through.
You just don't share the exact values, ideals, and opinions I do. The reasoning I use might not make sense to you at all, the same way my reality might seem exaggerated to you.
If you don't think the map size limits resources very much, I get that. But at least give me the freedom to think what I want to, as long as I have sound reasoning, and act accordingly.
Stop being so emotional, not once have I told you that you cannot think or act as you wish. However your reasoning was not sound therefore I have every right to debate it.
Eh, in my experience, the purpose of a debate is more to get the audience thinking than it is to change the minds of the respective opinion-holders.
No one can really grasp the value of the nonrenewable resources yet, as the game hasn't been out long enough. I guess all we can do is wait, and maybe a month from now, see if people are having to start new worlds, etc.
One upside that is kind of a downside is that when 1.8.? update (and later ones) comes we will have to start a new world if we want new world features. I'm going to do that so it is helping me not feel so limited in these tiny worlds, fingers crossed by then that they may have a solution to expand our gaming area.
New dimensions, loading screens to different map sections (like an in game transfer between save worlds where you can take what you are carrying) or hopefully just bigger maps are a few possibilities. Personally I would be happy with a 5K x 5K world.
5K by 5K sounds really nice. That's like 25x the size of the current world! And I don't think I'll start a new world until they increase map sizes... I mean, I want to play with pistons and stuff, but I really don't want to just throw like 100+ hours of work and fun away. So...
I'm not stating that you haven't worked hard enough. It's just the main aspect of the game, you need to work for what you need. I have found random caverns underground filled with plenty resources. I haven't resorted to the dupe glitch yet. I don't think I will.
As this problem surfaces, obviously they will find some solution for it.
All is good there, you can craft any new things like pistons on your current world It is just things like jungle biomes, NPC villages, fortresses, swamps etc.
Lol your world look like the moon yet? What is the biggest stack you've detonated so far and how did it go?
I can understand clay being duplicated too, using a bug to beat a bug
SWEEETTT!!!!!
And wtf? I swear, when I typed my last response, it said "5K by 5K", but when I posted it, it removed the second 5... I promise!
And what's up with the bug where, when you bold a word, and then later, you hit backspace, and it takes you back to the word you bolded? Ugh!
If I could find one block of clay, I'd duplicate it. But I searched my Z axis, and sadly, no clay
Good point about the brown wool, but you can find sheeps or create a peaceful mob spawner (which will take for freakin' ever to get a good amount of brown wool). Waiting for Creative to do pixel art would probably be a lot more efficient than duping a bunch of stuff with a buddy.

Good luck finding it all. You'll eventually have mined almost everywhere, and it will be difficult to find anything without looking too hard.
Eh, in my experience, the purpose of a debate is more to get the audience thinking than it is to change the minds of the respective opinion-holders.

Ah! I didn't even think to duplicate the one cocoa bean I found... but really, what's the point, when I have thousands of soups lol
I just use it for fun, and then don't save. Here's an example on my Live stream of what I did with it. 10,000+ TNT. :3

Brown Wool.
Saddles are meh, not worried about clay and cocoa beans are only for cookies. Meh. :\
And Brown Wool. That's useful for Pixel art and the like. :l
Nice video, xBladeM6x. That's entertaining.
